Jeff and Amy Taylor (Kurt Russell and Kathleen Quinlan), are driving across the country to make a new start in San Diego. When their new car breaks down in the middle of nowhere, Amy accepts a ride from trucker “Red” Barr (J.T. Walsh) who offers to drive her to the next truck stop so she can call for help. Jeff, who has stayed with the car, manages to get it started. Jeff then proceeds to the truck stop but is unable to find his wife, however, he tracks down the trucker, who says he’s never seen him before. Then the craziness begins!
Gotta say that I've always been a Kurt Russell fan and if you enjoy movies like the original 1988 Dutch version of "The Vanishing", then you should definitely give "Breakdown" a chance.
"Breakdown" is an intense thrill ride with a great cast. Kurt Russell shines in these kind of roles in my opinion. And the bad guys in this movie are wicked .. my fav was M.C. Gainey who was terrific on the tv series "Lost" and others might remember him from the movie "Spellbinder" from the 80's.
The director was Jonathan Mostow who went on to direct films like "U-571" and "Terminator 3".

I remember liking this one. Russell is great and i´ve always liked J.T. Walsh as a bad guy. Mostow´s best without a doubt.

I didn't see this, it looks interesting, but Terminator 3 was terrible.
