this movie is one that i can watch over and over and over again, which is funny when you think about it, but honestly i love it. great performances and visuals, and a excellent story
one scene in particular that sticks with me, is when they play ray charles you dont know me, and phil and rita are dancing under the night sky with the snow falling, it was for me a striking visual, to the point that everytime i hear the song i think of it, and then when they bring the song back after phil gets rejected numerous times, made the song go from romantic to down right sad, it was a great use of the song and worked well with murray's performance in that scene
i should start a post that discusses similar scenes like this in other movies

Scrooged beats out Groundhog Day on my Top Bill Murray Movie List cuz that's one I could watch over & over again. And because I think he's funnier in it.
Groundhog Day...not so much..but it's still a cute movie.

Sorry Pyro, but Groundhog Day is simply Bill Murrays crowning glory. It's genius in a way that Scrooged could never be.
It's not about belly laughs - if you wantn that there's loads of other movies, like the first half of Stripes.
It's not about effects, which you'd get in Ghostbusters and to a degree in Scrooged.
It's about actors telling a story. Getting the audience to watch a guy turn from obnoxious and rude, through wonderfully opportunistic, past melancholy and maincally resigned, and beyond determined and resourceful to happy and contented, and you just 'get' him at every single point.
Very few movies do that to the extent that the movie title passes into accepted language the world over.

I definitely like Karen Allen better. I always had a thing for her after watching The Wanderers '79.
I got hold of Scrooged and am gonna watch it today sometime, but I really don't think that I will put it higher than Groundhog Day. Groundhog Day to me is some of Bill's best work. I also love him as Big Ernie McCracken in Kingpin - he's quite a character.

they both play incredibly nice people, i would have to go with karen allen as well, something about her kindness is more genuine, and in my opinion she's more attractive

Karen Allen has a more active role than Andie McDowell, so comes cross as a person that appears more rounded, more developed.
Andie McDowell was the yardstick for Murray's progress, and as such didn't really get the room to make the same kind of mark. However, having to play the same scenes over and again, just slightly different each time, must have been quite a challenge to them as actors.

Just a quick comment that is off topic a bit but is anyone else getting a match.com advertisement down the bottom of the screen?

I am sure they will get rid of it ASAP. Seinfeld is classic BTW.

I like Groundhog Day too, did it ever become known what happened between Murray and Ramis? Not a Karen Allen fan, not after what she did to Boon...
