Two young men, one in need of medical attention, are cryogenically frozen in the early 1960s. The two are preoccupied with the fact that the police are pursuing them to realize what they are doing. The next thing they know is that they are in a strange new world 29 years later.
The time-traveling of Frank (Peter Berg) and his brother-in-law Willie (Brian Wimmer) is prompted by a run-in with a corrupt land developer (Peter Gallagher). Thinking themselves crime suspects after a confrontation with him, they are eager to escape their 1962 set of problems. Frank's kidney issues sends them straight into the path of a cryonics expert looking for guinea pigs and the next thing you know Willie and Frank are thawing out in the future. Once there, they marvel at things like fast food, male telephone operators, cell phones, and ATMs. They also decide that rap and heavy-metal music must be playing at the wrong speed.
"Late For Dinner" builds toward a reunion between Willie and his wife, Joy (Marcia Gay Harden), not to mention the daughter (Colleen Flynn) who is now just about her father's age. This is my fav part of "Late For Dinner" and actually has some excellent moments. I really like Colleen Flynn in this movie and wish she had been in more movies.
Oh and it is cool to see Janeane Garofalo in a small role at a fast food restaurant.
I'm pretty sure I remember Muffy mentioning this film awhile back, but I didn't find it on a search.
