Midwestern law student comes to California for summer work. Soon he finds out that life on the beach is much more fun.
Just watched this good and entertaining beach volley flick. Starring C. Thomas Howell, Peter Horton, Courtney Thorne-Smith, Christopher Rydell and Harley Jane Kozak.
Howell is great as always and Horton could be Kip Winger´s twin brother
The soundtrack is pretty good including Inner City, Paula Abdul, Kenny Loggins´ Top Gun tune "Playing with the Boys" and some other nice tunes.
I know that Muffy likes this one (don´t you ) What about the others?
The movie is available on dvd so get your copy asap!

This is definitely a 90's flick with an 80's hangover. C. Thomas Howell was always great in these kind of movies. Loved seeing Terry Kiser not playing dead, but his slimey character almost made you wish he was a little. Also, 80's SI goddess Kathy Ireland in a small supporting role.
If this movie had been released in 1989, we would be discussing more often.
Cindy.. you should seek this movie out.
Oh and what an awesome pool at his uncle's house!

This movie rocks! - but I'm kinda biased since I love everything C. Thomas Howell. I like the sidekick/best friend in this one. He coulda been annoying but turns out to have some heart and does very well. Courtney Thorne-Smith is always a sweetheart.

I haven't seen it, but if Mr. Howell is in it it can't be 100% bad.

I'm actually watching "Side Out" right now and enjoying as always!
Is this probably just a bizarre coincidence.. but C. Thomas Howell is sporting a couple Mossimo shirts in this flick.. the bizzare part is that Lori Loughlin (Howell's co-star in Secret Admirer) married fashion designer Mossimo Giannulli, the creator of Mossimo Clothing Line.. but not until 6 years after this movie was made. Oh and according to the info above .. Secret Admirer has never seen this movie.
aTomiK.. I think it's wild that they used the Loggin's tune from "Top Gun" in this flick. Wait.. forget the tune.. bikini contest is on!

Devo.. hilarious! Some great quotes in this flick. And speaking of volleyball, C. Thomas Howell playing against real pro beach volleyball players was so "North Shore".
And Secret Admirer. you are right about his buddy. He had every right to be upset, but took the high road. Maybe, you did watch it after all.
"I invented you, man. And you guys were nothing before me. I can't just let an investment go down the drain.."
How's Wiley?
"Wiley's good.. I broke his other arm."

I found this guy on the internet who was not as impressed as us:
As an avid beach volleyball player I found this movie to be an embarrassment to true players everywhere. C. Thomas Howell's character lacks a lot of the basic volleyball skills(especially setting) to make it believable. Randy Stoklos/Sinjin Smith the opponents in the final were one of the greatest volleyball teams in the world at that time however they were HORRIBLE actors and had too many lines (more than one was probably enough). The scene that topped it off was the ridiculously bad(and illegal) set that Howell's character made on match point to win the championship! I can understand making a point of an underdog coming out of nowhere to get to an AVP final but the manner in which it was done was a joke to all those players who work their butts off to be on the tour year in and year out.

What a funny comment Was this the first movie he saw that didn´t quite resemble the truth? And what about a sense of humour, it´s a good thing to have.

I love these types! It's like the dudes on the kung fu film forums who practice martial arts, so they come to complain about how fake and unrealistic it all looks on screen! Yeah, no ****, Sherlock! IT'S A MOVIE!!!! Fight choreography/screen fighting and real competiton fighting are two completely different things! That's why most american martial arts movies suck in comparison to the asian ones. They think favouring realism is the way to make it exciting.... well, it's not.
Does the boxing in the Rocky flicks make much sense, no! But it's fun to watch.
I've practiced different types of martial arts for years, and I don't expect a true to life representation when watching MA flicks. I expect intricate and fast paced choreo.
I don't know jack **** about Volley Ball, but im really looking forward to this flick!

Well I enjoyed being a scum bag before I died in Weekend at Bernies and after that, well what do you expect from the living dead. In hind sight I think I did pretty well for a walking corpse. I played my part in this just after reading the script for Bernies 2 also.
