I just wanted to tell everyone it is coming up soon, on Feb. 2nd. I grew up in Punxsutawney (the town where the movie is based on)...this is where all my 80s memories come from. They did not film the movie in Punxsy, but Bill Murray and Harold Ramis did go to Gobbler's Knob and researched the movie, and stayed at the Pantall Hotel (which is where I was for my Prom Night). So, that is pretty cool.
The town is over run with Groundhogs. They are painted everywhere. Alot of my family is still there. It's kind of cool because you can look at pictures of the town on their websites, and since I talk about my childhood and growing up in the 80s, you all can actually see the places I was at in the 80s.
The movie was filmed in Woodstock, Illinois. A friend of mine, that I graduated from high school with, he was an advisor for the movie- he's the one who designed our town's website.
When I first saw this movie, I didn't like it....but then I watched it again, and I loved it. The Bed N Breakfast scene- they say in the movie that it is on Cherry Street- that street is where my grandpa lived at one time.
They play the song....I've got you Babe" over and over on the radio....in the movie. That was one of the songs I made them play at my wedding, so that was weird to me, because I got married before the movie ever came out.
The diner that Bill Murray is in, where he is eating all the donuts and stuff, that is not the real diner that they based it on, the real diner was called McKenzie's, or we called it Ruth and Harry's. My Dad use to hang in there with all his friends, they always went there for coffee and donuts. I loved their food. They went out of business. But, I had a friend who's mother worked there, and we use to go there on Saturday afternoon's for hamburgers and french fries, it was a perfect diner/dive.
I loved growing up there. It is cool to have a movie based on your hometown.
I know a few people on here really like this movie.
They make Ground Hog Beanie Babies. I think they have made at least 5 different ones.

I've heard they had considered using the actual Punxsutawney Phil for the scene above, but it didn't pan out in the end, and the groundhog pictured above ended up biting Murray repeatedly (the Gopher's revenge?).

That guy is good at playing annoying people-he was the guy in "Single White Female"- that put the moves on Bridget Fonda.
I only ever went to Gobbler's Knob when I was a senior in high school, and I went with my foreign exchange student, and a whole group of us were there together. It was cold and raining, and you have to get up at 4am before the sun comes up, and then you wait to see if he sees his shadow or not.
I am hoping this year that spring is right around the corner-but that usually is not the case...it's usually 6 more weeks of winter.
Wow....I just did a search on You Tube for Punxsutawney....I could not believe how much stuff there is on there. I need to check it out.

This is the Pizza Place in Punxsutawney, that I hung out in...on Friday nights...I knew the guy who's parents owned the place then. I use to take aerobic classes in the gym above the Pizza Place, and I would go in there afterwards and he always gave me a free Pepsi.
We use to go to a club we were in above it called Campus Life- and it was so much fun. I loved being able to walk in to the down town.
The old post office, is right down the street from that Pizza Place, it is now The Weather Center...my sister-in-law painted the whole place. I have not been able to get there to see it, but I plan on it in the summer.
I go home every summer to go pick blueberries, this year I am taking my friends and we are going to go tour the town, and I am going to show them my sister-in-law's artwork.
There are alot of people who go there now because of the movie.

I remember going to see this with some friends. Brilliant film.
Phil Connors: Excuse me, where is everyone going? Fan on Street: To Gobbler's Knob. It's Groundhog Day. Phil Connors: It's still just once a year, right?
Phil: There is a major network interested in me. Larry: That would be the Home Shopping Network.
