This track is actually a few months old, but I am hearing from several sources that they're going to use this version for Burton's interpretation. Not sure if they're going to shoot a video. Maroon 5 stayed pretty true to the original I think. With Burton/Elfman and Depp on board, this version could be semi decent. Although, Planet of the Apes didn't go over well, hopefully Burton gets back on track. Burton keeps insisting that this is not a "remake", it's his "interpretation" of the book, which Burton believes the 70's version butchered the book. But what Book/Movie rendition doesn't?

Here's the track, if anyone is interested:

I think this type of movie is right up Burton's alley, especially if the book he's interpreting is a dark comedy. Plus anything he makes with Johnny Depp seems to go extremely well. I'm looking forward to the movie--I did enjoy the 70's version greatly, though. Gene Wilder is tough to beat.

I heard the Imagination song on a commercial, and it was okay, but lacked the magic of the original.

Haven't seen too much in a while, but the project still seems like it will work well enough.

Oh, no no no... Please, say it's not Maroon 5! ! !

I would've gotten Keane to sing it.

I hope that the film isn't too dark, I mean the first one was really good. Johnny Depp almost looks like a plastic doll in this one from the previews that I have seen. I love Maroon 5 so I am sure if they have done the song then it will be awesome.

Something tells me Burton isn't catering to the children on this one. I expect the humor, plot, and innuendos to be aimed towards the adult crowd. I'm not sure if "too dark" is in Burton's vocab Jess. [Wink]

Supposedly, the new version will be more closer to the spirit of Roald Dahl's original book (which is pretty dark), than the 70's version with Gene Wilder. Dahl actually HATED the 70's movie version!

Which is even more ironic when you note he's listed as the sole writer in the opening credits (he did the first couple of drafts, but writer David Seltzer eventually rewrote up to 40% of what we ended up seeing).

I'm a bit creeped out that Johnny Depp said he's basing his Willy Wonka partly on Marilyn Manson. It should be pretty awesome considering it's Burton, but the Maroon 5 track would be super sweet on the soundtrack.

That's interesting that Johnny based another one of his characters from a rocker.

He was inspired by the mannerisms of Rolling Stone guitarist Keith Richards, and tried to copy that for his role in that "Pirates of the Carribean" movie a few years ago.

I think the Marilyn Manson thing is beacuse he (MM) had a music video where he played Wonka and it copied the part from Willy Wonka where they're in the boat on the river "never knowing which direction we are going".

There was word Keith Richards might have a cameo as Jack Sparrow's Dad in the next POTC. That would be awesome.
