I just learned that a local Writer's Institute in upstate NY is hosting a series of Friday night readings featuring some writer/film-makers, followed by a screening of one of their respective films.
I'm very bummed that I'll miss Neil LaBute [Your Friends and Neighbors, In the Company of Men] because I have to be out of town on business.
But I should be able to make the Roddy Doyle [The Commitments, The Snapper] appearance in November.
I'm so excited by these opportunities...I just had to share it with people who have a similar interest in quality performance art!

Is Robert McKee involved in this presentation as well? McKee often conducts seminars on screenwriting for movies and TV.
If you saw the 2002 movie "Adaptation" with Nicholas Cage, you will know who I'm referring to.

Sounds cool, if only I were there I'd go, personally, I'd love to see a reading of 'Reservoir Dogs' with Tarantino or Mamet doing 'Glengarry/Glenross', hell, even Matt and Ben with 'Goodwill Hunting' would suffice.
Enjoy the event Hipstermom.

Steverino, I'll have to get the list out and double-check on that one.
Kashster, I guess upstate NY is small potatoes to the names you mentioned, but it sure is cool that we're getting a few noteworthy industry people.
After the Roddy Doyle reading, the Institute is screening "The Van" which is one of his films that I haven't seen, so I'll be sticking around.
I'm not interested in all the readings and all the films, but I'm planning to attend the screening of "The Fallen Idol" which is an old British film from about 1948...it's one that gets kudos in the classic cinema circles and I don't recall ever seeing it pop up on TV. So there's another night of quality filmgoing that's on my fall culture list.
