"Assault on Precinct 13 is a 1976 American action-thriller film written and directed by John Carpenter.
It stars Austin Stoker as a law-enforcement officer who defends a defunct police precinct
against an attack by a criminal gang, along with Darwin Joston as a convicted murderer who helps him.
The story was inspired by the Howard Hawks western film Rio Bravo
and the George A. Romero horror film Night of the Living Dead." (Wikipedia)

It was time to watch the ultimate classic once again.
I recently bought the Finnish VHS tape, so many good memories
because we rented it so many times back in the day.

The story, the cast, the score... all perfect.

I also still have the UK tape we ordered from Mr. Benson in the early 90s.

I love the scene where Kim Richards get snuffed! Not that I get off on seeing kids killed on screen, but that scene has IMPACT! and good old fashioned effects work. Airhose + fake blood + sound effect = Awesome!

That was a very shocking scene when i first saw the movie
and it still is.

"The MPAA threatened to give the film an X-rating if the scene was not cut.
Following the advice of his distributor,
Carpenter gave the appearance of complying by cutting the scene from the copy he gave to the MPAA,
but he distributed the film with the "ice cream truck" scene intact. (Wikipedia)

Gotta love Carpenter [Smile]

My favorite Carpenter film, excellent with tender loving care in every frame. I have this in the old big-platter LaserDisc format. Carpenter's commentary is great too, like a mini-film school. [Smile]

Indeed. "Assault on Precinct 13" is my favorite John Carpenter film. (Stay clear of the competent but boring remake with Ethan Hawke.) It is so very well done, brilliant actually. I have it on the old-school laserdisc with Carpenter's commentary, which, as usual, is terrific. (At one point, he points out that the two cops transporting Napoleon Wilson have really long hair--because he couldn't get them to cut it for the film! Awww, the woes of low budget filmmaking!)
