It's excellent and a highly overlooked Eastwood film. And you hit the nail right on the head, Isis - it is very similar to Fatal Attraction, only released some 16 years earlier. For my money Jessica Walter is way scarier than Glenn Close, though. She has this very over-the-top performance that borders on Mommie Dearest territory without crossing the line into ridiculous camp.

This is definitely a cult classic on this side of the pond. It seems to be on Television all the time.
A Clint Eastwood classic.
It's also remembered for the inclusion of this classic song.Posts: 1564 | From: Emirates Stadium | Registered: Apr 2007 | Site Updates: 0

I saw both movies, and I think this one is WAY better than "Fatal Attraction"!
The bartender early in the movie was played Don Siegel, a longtime friend and mentor of Eastwood and who had directed him in several movies, including "Dirty Harry".

I got it and watched it last night. Gosh was she crazy. There were a ton of similarities to this movie and Fatal Attraction. It is weird, but right after we finished watching this, I was flipping though the regular TV channels and Fatal Attraction was on-so I watched it.
In both movies the crazy women slit their wrists.
I liked Play Misty for Me. Clint Eastwood looked awesome.
I thought the scenery and the way it was filmed was really cool, it was so beautiful.
It was filmed in Carmel, CA...where he became mayor of.
Donna Mills looked totally different in this movie, I don't know if I would have even known who she was if I hadn't known she was in it.
This movie came out in 1971. For that time period...it really was creepy and really well acted.
I highly recommend this movie.

Very good movie. And Jessica Walters compltetly freaked me out. To this day whenever I see her in a movie or on tv I think of Play Misty For Me.

I watched it again the other night. My son wanted to see it. He loves Clint Eastwood. It is pretty freaky. When she sneaks in his house and is standing over him with a butcher knife, that is scary stuff.

Great movie! I watched it for the first time around 1992, and it became a cult classic among my friends. I agree it's way better than Fatal Attraction. To me, it's the first real "slasher" flick. Long before Halloween and Friday the 13th tried to claim credit for this. Jessica Walters plays a great psycho. Although she still has an active career, I'm surprised this movie didn't make her a bigger household name. I think she's a much better female lead than many big names today.

anyone else ever notice at the start of Dirty Harry, just before Harry foils the bank job, there's a cinema in the background with Play Misty For Me as the advertised feature

I have read on Wikipedia that Clint Eastwood detested "Fatal Attraction" as he felt that it was a plagiarisation of "Play Misty For Me."
