Or better known by it's american name The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly.
Just wondering if there's anybody else here who is a fan of this movie. A spaghetti western that when released was written off by most because of it's genre. But over the years it's been considered a cinema masterpiece. Leone's directing is simply a thing of beauty the way he was able to capture the beauty of Spain and his extreme close up sots are legendary. Pair that up with the Morricone score and you have a movie of epic standards.
This movie is firmly entrenched in the top 10 over at IMdB and rightfully so. Quentin tarrantino has also commented that he feels this is the best directed movie of all time.
The perfomances of Eastwood as the good, Van Cleef as the bad and Wallach as the ugly are all top notch; especially Wallach.
If you can look past the fact that it's a three hour movie, which I prefer over the 161 minute original release, and the dubbing you have one of the best movies ever IMHO.
Just wondering who else likes this gem of a movie.

Watched The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly again yesterday. Such a fantastic movie! This is basically very funny film, never takes itself too seriously.
Eli Wallach steals the show as Tuco but Clint Eastwood and Lee Van Cleef are too cool to be ignored.
Leone was a genius and this is a real classic but Once Upon a Time in the West is even better IMO.

The Sergio Leone westerns are all fantastic. I even like "A Fistful of Dynamite" a/k/a "Duck, You Sucker." Three iconic scenes that folks will talk about for as long as folks ever talk about movies: the opening of "Once Upon a Time in the West" at the train station; Tuco running through the graveyard to "Ecstasy of Gold" at the end of "The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly"; and the shoot out with the musical watch playing at the end of "For a Few Dollars More."
It's funny. I saw all these as a kid and knew that they were truly excellent. It took critics years to come around. Some of the reviews of Leone's films back in the day were pretty harsh, calling his films violent, badly dubbed pasta westerns. Funny how with the distance of time, opinions change. (Another fantastic 70's movie for me that was positively reviled upon initial release was Peckinpah's "Bring Me the Head of Alfredo Garcia." Again, I've always loved it, but it took decades for folks to come around.) :-)

Bought Bring Me the Head of Alfredo Garcia dvd couple of weeks ago. I remember liking it very much.

I'm not sure it's sensible to compare 'Once Upon a Time...' with GB&U. One is an adventure yarn, and the other is trying to make some serious statements about the nature of power, greed, etc. I tend to separate them. OUaT is the better film, but GB&U is just as entertaining.

I am amassive Clint Eastwood fan, but I can't watch GB&U. It's too boring. My favourite western of Clint's is High Plains Drifter.
