Overriding memory (aside from Leia and gold bikini) - Episode 4, Scene 1 - full dolby stereo cranked right up, sat in the cinema, in the dark, with a load of other expectant then-twelve-year-olds (ideal age for this stuff)
The start - the scrolling text - the small ship flies into view - then the rumble at the back, getting slowly louder, until the fricking HUGE Imperial ship comes into shot.......
Fave Episode - A New Hope Fave Character - Jar Jar Binks (only kidding!)
Real fave character - Han Solo or C3PO

Unfortunately I was born too late to experience them in the theater, so my first exposure was when USA had the broadcast rights in the early 90s (so for about 5 years my belief was that Spaceballs was entirely original, albeit fairly skewed). As it is, however, it does still work on the small screen. I would rate Return of the Jedi as the best film overall, and R2D2 as the best character (although Salacious Crumb comes pretty close).
Do we also want to consider favorite scene in this? If so, my vote would be Solo chasing after the stormtroopers yelling at the top of his lungs, only to find the tables quickly turned (and truthfully, I think this is one scene that definitely works better in the special edition now that he's outnumbered 10,000 to 1 rather than 5 or 6 to 1).

WOW! 30 years old now. Man, thats hard to believe. I was 10 years old when it came out. It blew my mind when I saw it. I was bug eyed thru the entire movie. It will always be a ground breaking, classic movie, that will stand the test of time year after year....
