In posting this subject, I'm sure lots are thinking of a scene from The Exorcist. That movie did not scare me at all, but I thought it was a masterpiece. I'd say the scariest scene from a 70s movie would be Chrissy getting eaten by the shark in the opening scene of Jaws. It is just disturbing and had me holding my breath.

That's not even the scariest scene from the movie "Jaws" The scariest scene in the movie is when Richard Dreyfuss dives underwater to check out the capsized boat and the head floats by the hole in the boat right before Dreyfuss' eyes. I've seen this movie numerous times and it makes me jump everytime.

Okay, it's very funny now, but no scenes scared me more when I was a wee lad then the evil African Zuni hunting fetish doll attacking Karen Black in Trilogy of Terror.

Yeah, that last scene in Carrie got me too.
I was around 8 when I first saw Dawn of the Dead, it had me looking around corners for a few nights after that.
Jaws, yeah, as much as I occasionally dig the ocean, there is not one time when I don't think of that movie when I go there.
The nanny hanging herself in The Omen wasn't scary but it creeped me out when I was little. "Damian! This is all for you!"

You know what scared me especially because we had to walk home after the movie was over from the theater in good o'l Pomona, it was the movie "It's Alive". Man walking home I thought for sure we were followed by that damn baby in the bushes. And how about the movie "SSSSSSS" were the actor turned into a snake. Now we had some fun in the theater that night, clawing people from the back on thier neck seeing them jump we made our own scary scene. the prom part of Carrie doesnt bother me. her walking home ...when she makes the car crash...okay STARTS to bother me. The part that REALLY bothers me is when she's in the house and WE know before she does that her mothers out to get her. yikes!!!! actually I dont know why but Michael Meyers comin after Laurie Strode when she's babysitting bothered me. When she's in the closet: bothers me. But gotta love Laurie. I woulda left the kids for him and got MYSELF outta there!!!!!

I agree mamamia. halloween is one of my favorite movies and the scene when michael myers is chasing laurie across the street to the other house...is pretty freaky to me. i mean if i put myself in her place...i would be sreaming as i ran down the road.
i feel like i am the only one who did not find "the exorcist" to be scary. that movie didn't bother me.
there is a movie with a younger michael douglas, that came out in the 70's called "when michael calls." that movie scares me because a little boy, who is supposedly dead, calls his family members and harrasses them. the sound of the kid's voice is freaky.

I have never heard of that movie When Michael Calls, but that sounds like a good one, is it anywhere you can find it??
Scary scenes, how about Piranha, I can't believe how scary that entire movie was, those fish were so real, and when they were at the camp and the amusement park, biting people, and taking big chunks of skin off them, I couldn't watch, it was so realistic.
Has anyone seen Black Christmas, that's a scary 70's movie, with Margot Kidder.

Deliverance was awfully real-too creepy. The Last House on the Left was just released on DVD, and it was so creepy and based on a true story, has anyone else seen it? Also, Alice Sweet Alice, when she is stabbing that woman on the steps in the legs-ick! Deathweekend, with Brenda Vaccaro- where they kidnap her, and her guy friend, and they end up killing him, that was too real-it seemed like a movie that was based on something that could really happen. I hate rape scenes in any movie-that is scary.

I think the part in "The Omen" when Damien is at the zoo and he looks at the Giraffes. The Giraffes then run from him. Gave me Goosebumps!

I think I feel like Isis does. when its a boogeyman thing its not as scarey as when its a real person. Like The Shining for instance. The Dad snaps and comes after his family with an axe. much scarier than a Boogeyman...(because it could really happen)

The Exorcist never scared me. Jaws not really but only because over here there are no sharks so its kinda impossible for me to get my leg chunked off or something.
Halloween had some pretty scary scenes, I couldn't sleep for awhile.

Exorcist DID scare me. It was a few years ago on TBS I think, around 1:00am. More than anything it was the sound of that voice when Linda Blair was speaking Latin while possessed that totally freaked me out. I had to change the channel and turn a light on to calm myself.

The scene in Carrie that scares me, is when the mother is hiding behind the closet door, when she goes in and gets a bath to wash all the pig blood off her-that was creepy. Has anyone seen Hell Night-I think it came out in the 80's, but Linda Blair is in it, I started to watch it, and then it was creeping me out too bad, and I have never finished it. It was kind of funny at the beginning.

One of the scariest scenes is when Leatherface (Texas Chainsaw Massacre) comes storming out of doorway and hits mateyboy on the head with a hammer then drags the body back with him before slamming the metal slide door shut!

I think the scariest scene in a 70s flick would have to be when John Travolta is dancing in front of his mirror in tight black underwear spraying his hair with tons of aerosol hair spray.(Saturday Night Fever)
Thats scene will haunt me for the rest of my natural life!

Hahahhahahaha!!!! John Travolta's boulder holders!!! LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Put Texas Chainsaw Massacre on my Discomfort list. "Go get Grandpa!!!",hittin her in the head with the hammer. That kinda stuff tweaks me. I USED to be afraid of the Exorcist when I was little because I never felt I was religious enough. I thought if it was gonna happen to ANYONE it was gonna be ME!!!!
