I remember this sort of getting panned by critics but I didnt think it was bad. It was a kiddie ganster movie where they used cream pies instead of bullets. It starred Scott Baio and Jodie Foster. Anyone else remember it?

I saw the movie when it first came out. It was certainly unusual for its time.

A friend of mine went to school in the UK - and the production company for Bugsy Malone used the kids in her year as extras - like in the big fight scene at the end and for crowds in the club. The week they did the filming..... she got the chickenpox and so she's not in it!
That being said - Bugsy Malone is a great movie - certainly one of my favorites and one I can watch over and again. Some of the kids were real good actors.

I love this movie! I had it on video and used to watch it over and over again. Sadly it was also a stage play and I have watched many a crap school production over the years! It seems to be done every few years. For a kids movie it was pretty acurate in terms of costumes and things and it was good that the guns shot cream! Anyway, I loved it. Glad to hear you guys did too! Very jealous of your friend PaulS!

I love this movie too! It was huge in my family. I've seen it later and obviously it wasn't as magical as in childhood but I loved it at the time. I even wanted to start a speak-easy in the top of my roof!
