I just finished watching "To Sir, With Love" starring Sidney Poitier. It is actually from 1967, but I wanted to post about it because I was so impressed with it. This movie was excellent and had to be groundbreaking for its time. I loved the story and the music.

I am not a fan of sequels, but I noticed they made a second "To Sir, With Love" in 1996 and brought back several people from the original cast for cameos. Does anyone else like this movie and if you do, have you seen the sequel?

The dancing at the end with Judy Geeson is a treat to watch. A teacher that teaches you about life is a wonder thing ya know.

Devo and other teachers, what are your thoughts about this movie?

I'm not a teacher, but since I was a student I can say how much I've always loved this movie, based on a true story.

The mod clothes & music...the working class setting...Sir's dilemma over pursuing his original dream vs. teaching more...I would say this movie set the precedent for all the "teacher making a difference movies" of years to come.

Very shagadelic, baby.

And don't forget Lulu's singing the theme song!

Another "teacher" movie that I remember watching from the same time period (late 60's) is "Up The Down Staircase", starring Sandy Dennis.

i happen to like this movie very much. my parents were watching it one day and i sat there and caught the 2nd half with them and then later, watched it entirely by myself. sidney is excellent in this movie. and the dance scene at the end is cool. the picture above sticks out most, because of the groovy song that they are dancing to in that part of the film. i too, like lulu's part where she sings to 'sir.'

valley, i have seen the sequel and i didn't care for it much. it was along the same lines as the first, but doesn't capture you like the original. i was 16 or 17 in highschool and our english teacher made us watch it. i think i was the only one in class who had seen the first one, cause nobody even paid attention.

Actually my favorite teacher when I was in business school was a black man so whenever I hear that song I think of him. I guess that makes me LuLu!

I brought this posting back up because I caught the sequel "To Sir, With Love II" this morning. I thought it was a noble effort for a movie that was made almost 30 years after the original movie. I truly enjoyed seeing Lulu and Judy Geeson all grown up. I thought some of the new students gave excellent performances and I'm surprised they haven't seen more work over the last ten years. Well, like NowhereGirl stated above, it doesn't match the original, but I would recommend to any fans of the original "To Sir, With Love".
