Yesterday i watched Dragnet the first time since the late 80s.
It´s an enjoyable movie but not quite a classic in my books.

Acting as both a parody and homage to the long-running Dragnet television series,
Dan Aykroyd plays Joe Friday (nephew of the late Joe Friday from the series) while Tom Hanks plays Pep Streebek, his new partner.
Harry Morgan reprises his role of Bill Gannon (partner of Joe's late uncle), now their captain.
Alexandra Paul plays Friday's love interest, "the Virgin Connie Swail" while Christopher Plummer plays the villain,
a soft-spoken televangelist, who secretly runs a cult of Pagan anarchists.
Dabney Coleman plays the publisher of a skin magazine called Bait. (Wikipedia)

I think that the cast is perfect, at least when it comes to good guys.
Aykroyd does his super fast talking and Hanks is once again the crazy easygoing dude.
Alexandra Paul is very pretty and that´s enough for me [Cool]

Plummer´s role could have been better IMO.
He could´ve been more fierce or more sleazier but basicly this is a more lightweight actioncomedy so what do i know.

The movie starts very slowly and i think that this movie would´ve needed a good action scene in the beginning.
I´ve never watched the original series so i really can´t say anything about that.

I like the Art of Noise theme tune reboot
and Aykroyd/Hanks was a perfect team for this flick.

Any thoughts?

This is one of those movies, that if it's on tv, I'll most likely watch it. But im not gonna buy it. It's too uneven and halfazz for me!

"Reckless endangerment of human life. Willful disregard for private property. Failure to signal for a safe lane change..."
"Yeah, he's really racking up the violations, isn't he, Friday?"
"Not him, YOU. This is your one way ticket back to civilian life, Mr. I Like to Throw the Book Out the Window."
"Good idea." (does just that)

Agree with most here that it's almost but not quite great, starting strong, sagging a bit in the middle before picking up again at the end. In between, they do come up with many numerous amusing moments as well (Friday trying to handle being surrounded by hundreds of P.A.G.A.N.s screaming for their blood like a normal situation, as if he really has any hope of arresting all of them).

Like everyone else, thought it was a decent movie and Aykroyd did his best to pay tribute to the original tv show.. but overall not a movie I want to see again.

Don't take the film so serious. It's totally awesome 1987 !!!!!!

Dabney Coleman changes his speech, so funny.

When they Emil Muzz the drawer treatment during questioning. " you want anything Muzz? " " yeah, a snickers bar......chewing gum....and my lawyer! " don't quote me on that but it's funny.

People Against Good and Normalcy. Sounds like the Pagan's would do well recruiting from this forum. LOL no offense
