Welcome to Fright Night!

 -

"What's the matter with you friend?  Are you hard of hearing? ...  I kill vampires!"

"Fright Night II" is the awesome horror-comedy sequel that finds Charley from the original "Fright Night" being terrorized by the undead sister of the vampire he killed in the original film. Four years after the death of bloodsucker Jerry Dandridge, young Charley Brewster (William Ragsdale) has settled into life as a college student and rejected his former belief in the existence of vampires. Although he's busy pursuing the affections of determined coed Alex (Traci Lind), Charley soon falls under the spell of the mysterious and alluring Regine (Julie Carmen). Although everything about the woman screams vampire, her feminine charms -- and her claims of being nothing but an outlandish performance artist -- lead Charley to become her unwilling servant. Torn between Regine's enchantments and his loyalty to Traci, Charley again looks for help from Peter Vincent (Roddy McDowall), the Fright Night tv show host who assisted him in the first film. Soon, Charley, Peter, and Traci are facing off against a coven of picturesque bloodsuckers led by Regine, who reveals herself to be the ancient sister of Jerry Dandridge. Directed and co-written by John Carpenter colleague Tommy Lee Wallace, "Fright Night II" includes a co-writing credit for "Pretty Woman" scribe Stephen Metcalfe and cinematography from Mark Irwin, who has worked with everyone from David Cronenberg to the Farrelly brothers.

 -

Well, this may come as a surprise to original "Fright Night" fans, but I actually think "Fright Night II" is way better.  The major difference for me is Traci Lind who is just adorable as Charley's girlfriend. I also enjoy the revenge premise of the movie and the performance of a more mature looking and acting Ragsdale. The only drawback and probably a stumbling point for original Fright Night fans is the fact that Chris Sarandon's vampire is only mentioned and does not return somehow.

"You were supposed to bite her on the neck."

Really enjoyed the creativity with the way each character/vampire died in the movie.  The special effects/make-up were actually quite impressive. And the tune "Come To Me" is just so seductively haunting.

Fright Night II - Come To Me

Found this incredible youtube Fright Night II tribute video with the song. It is actually a remake of the Brad Fiedel tune from the original Fright Night.

 -

I highly recommend this flick for any fans of the original "Fright Night"!

Thanks Valley....I forgot that Fright night even had a sequel. I think I'll track this down before Halloween. I recently added a credit card to my paypal account (bank transfers have been taking too long)...this could get ugly!

aTomiK.. I just saw that too about the shipping and handling.. $5 isn't bad for overseas shipping. I doubt they can get it to Findland though since it doesn't exist.. my iphone has a mind of its own sometimes. Maybe Finland will work.. if you know where that is..

Btw, your PMs say they are full and you can't receive anymore.

I used to hate part 2 back then, but it has grown on me a bit now. You've put me in the mood for having a double bill tonight.

Helen S.. my problem with the original "Fright Night" is the fact that Stephen Geoffreys annoys me to no end. Also, while Amanda Bearse was quite good in the original.. my senses are so much more in tune with Traci Lind in "Fright Night II". And there is no argument that Chris Sarandon makes an incredible vampire.. but I really enjoyed Julie Carmen's dysfunctional clan. Enjoy your double feature!

pettyfan.. you should definitely give it a watch!

LOL - I can't think of Fright Night II without thinking of this classic line:

(Female Vamp, mockingly) "You know how to use your lips, don't you Charley..?"

Fright Night 2 as always been a fave of mine, had it on R1 dvd.

just a shame I lost it when we moved...keep looking on ebay for a bargain but they all seem to go for about £30-£40, I only paid about £8 a few years back, I'll keep looking though.

Anyone know where to find the soundtrack?

Maybe in time for the Fright Night remake, Lionsgate will re-issue this in a special edition DVD/Blu-Ray for FN's anniversary next year.

I enjoyed this great underrated sequel since i was 8 years old in the last part of the 80's.

Trying to track down a cheap copy of this flick. Got my eye on a couple on ebay, now I just have to wait it out. Just watched the original tonight (first time in a long time) so I've gotta see the sequel. Can't say that I remember even seeing this one. Can't wait! Great write up, Valley [Smile]

Helen.. that is sad that watching them back to back made the original ungrow on you. [Wink]

I actually don't think they should be watched back to back.. there is a significant gap in Charley's age .. so it makes sense to gap the watching.

I enjoy the original, but it has never been a movie that I considered a fav. So that is probably why it is easier for me to proclaim "Fright Night II" the more entertaining flick.

Wow, Valley, you and the rest of the gang are really selling me on this one. I was unsure about checking this one out & I had the opportunity to pick up a DVD relatively cheap at the last Monstermania Convention I attended but I passed...now I wish I hadn't. I'll just have to go to another convention [Wink] .

Thanks for the great thread!

^--- Despite what everyone is thinking .. that is not me disguised as a girl from Texas gushing over "Fright Night: Part II" [Big Grin]

And Cindy.. I foresee another convention in your near future. There was recently a horror one in Chicago that would have been fun.

"Welcome to Fright Night .. uh.. Part II"

Just watched the first Fright Night movie courtesy of Fearnet.com. I have to say...I loved it!! Maybe this is just me, but I found myself rooting for Chris Sarandon throughout most of it, there was just something about him...haha...Loved the scene at the club, very 80's. Trying to find the soundtrack now.

The only good thing I will say is, the poster rocks! Always loved it.

I thought I replied to this thread after seeing the movie a while back...seen it not too long after Valley's original post...I really liked it. Traci Lind and Julie Carmen are beautiful and really added to the movie....beautiful enough that I almost think that I wouldn't like the movie as much if these two wern't in it....they are that beautiful!

I'm with Ronnie on this one. I think that, despite Lind and Carmen--who are really quite good and not just eye candy--"Fright Night Part 2" is a cash-in, made-on-the-cheap, unnecessary sequel. It's not terrible, it's certainly adequate, but it's too close to what we now see so frequently--a direct-to-DVD sequel that no one really needs or particularly wants. (Donnie Darko 2, anyone? [Smile] )While I like the first one too, for me, it's good but certainly not a world-beater as a horror-comedy. I'll leave that accolade to "Night of the Creeps."
