There's no thread on this movie already??? That is a travesty!
Oh Well, guess I'll be the one to do the honors...
I can't say enough good things about this movie. It's clever, it's witty, it's crazy, and most importantly, very VERY funny. I can't think of a single character that's not enjoyable to watch in this movie. And in all honesty, I can't conjur up a decision in my brain on who gave the funniest performance. Though it's more likely a toss up between Anne Ramsey & Danny Devito considering both play characters so colorful and off-the-wall. Billy Crystal gives a very note-worthy performance too. And he has his share of funny moments in this film.
So, as you might have already guessed, this is easily one of my favorite comedies of the 80's. And as you also might have guessed, I'm not doing a plot-to-plot summary review of this movie. I'll leave it to you to search this movie and read up on it yourselves. I will, however, give a score of 9 out of 10 to to this outstandingly funny movie.
Anyone else who's seen this comedy masterpiece please feel free to add your two cents. And those of you who've yet to see this brilliant movie, you are hereby ordered to do so...NOW!

Pyro I am too surprised this movie has never been made into a thread?
I agree with everything you said!!
Ramsey and Devito play such colorful charcters....and it is hard to say who gives the best performance between the 3 actors.
I love this scene
OWEN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and how the carmera pans out.....it's just hillarious "chop chop Owen" "Owen loves his mama" haha it's making me laugh right now.

This thread is kinda weird because I was planning on watching this tonight... starting it right now as a matter of fact... are you behind my couch, Pyro?
I love this movie, no doubt.
I know DeVito was a big star in the 80s, but I sorta feel that he doesn't receive any respect or recognition for those movies. I really enjoy his characters - he is always funny and he's a great actor too. (not counting Jewel Of The Nile, nobody could save that stinker)
Anyway, Throw Momma From The Train! Gonna watch it now. Bye

hehe...maybe I suffered from a momentary case of astral projection and did somehow wind up behind your couch. And you didn't even have the kindness to bring me a glass of kool-aid....how rude!:/ naw, I kidd...I had just happened to see there was no thread on it. And as I said, it IS one of my favorite 80's comedies...so I felt it had to be made. I agree with you too about feeling like Devito never got the props he deserved for his comedic performances in the 80's. Though he did receive some recognition for the movie "Twins", (IMO his next best comedic performance, only a small distant second behind Throw Momma), sadly, Schwarzenegger stole all the thunder and press from that film and left ole Danny out in the chicken coop. Even though Danny clearly gave the best performance of the movie.

Didn't Danny Devito actually get a Golden Globe nomination for his role in this movie?
I’m so use to Devito playing a funny, loud, obnoxious kind of guy in most of his movies, so his character in "Throw Momma From the Train" was a bit of a pleasant surprise. Billy Crystal played off of Devito perfectly. And come to think of it, I remember Anne Ramsey having a best supporting actress oscar nomination for this movie... Pyro you are right about this little mentioned movie being underrated. Outstanding black comedy with plenty of laughs!
