Confirming earlier reports, George Lucas himself announced today that the Star Wars films will be released on Blu-ray in 2011, in a six-movie box set. Speaking at the Celebration V convention in Orlando, Lucas said: "I wish I could say it was coming out this year, but it will come out next year." New, extensive special features will be included.
One of those special features, a deleted scene from Return of the Jedi, premiered at the convention. In it, Luke Skywalker is seen asembling his new lightsaber before going to the palace of Jabba the Hutt. - source Blu-ray.com
Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace (1999)
Star Wars: Episode II - Attack of the Clones (2002)
Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith (2005)
Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope (1977)
Star Wars: Episode V - The Empire Strikes Back (1980)
Star Wars: Episode VI - Return of the Jedi (1983)
There are quite a few people that will finally make the upgrade to Blu-ray when this box set is released next year.

Sure, we just need you to buy the movies another six or seven times as well as a couple of versions of the 3D versions and a few more versions of those. Maybe another couple of editions (max) of the prequels and put that on an HVD...but we're getting ahead ourselves.
What did you all think of the ROTJ deleted scene?

Lucas is quite a marketing whiz, but getting to the point where I'd like someone to klonk him on the head....like Kash demonstates above....really really soaking his franchise (which, who can blame him) but, feels too greedy to me. Does the same thing with his action figures...a seperate Luke Skywalker ation figure for everything...here's Luke looking to the left...new figure now looking to the right...smiling Luke...non smiling Luke...Luke with wind blown hair...Luke with non wind blown hair....give us a freaking break!!!! *Unfortunately, that all being said...I will buy the Blue rays...and go to see the pics in 3D...but then that's it... I mean it!
