Wow what can I say except all of this rain that we have been getting deserves a movie that deals with a lot of rain. The River starred Mel Gibson and Sissy Spacek about a farming family faced with tremendous flooding and family turmoil. It has been eons since I have seen this one but there is one scene that totally sticks out in my mind. Sissy's character gets trapped under a tractor and her arm gets caught in the gears and she must get herself out. Oh it was a gut wrenching scene.
This drama was released in December of 1984 and filmed in a Tennessee farming community purchased by the studio. Scott Glenn also co-starred.
Does anyone have any thoughts on this flick?

Saw the movie on VHS many years ago. Very good.
Other scenes that I remember is when Mel Gibson's character --- I think his last name was Garvey --- was trying to make ends meet by working in a steel mill while the regular workers were out on strike. So, Garvey is, in effect, a "scab".

Great movie with spirited performances. I still think Mel Gibson is a wonderful actor, but I've lost all respect for him as a person in recent years.
