This really isn't totally an 80's movie question.. but what movie scared you the most as a kid?
The one 80's movie that comes to mind for me is "The Shining".. the part where little Danny Torrance is riding his Big Wheel like device through the halls of the haunted hotel and runs into those twins and then later the woman in the tub still creeps me out a bit.
Overall.. I'm not a person that gets spooked very easily, but there is one movie that my parents accidently let me watch as a little kid that still haunts me to this day.
Looking it up.. at first it almost made me wonder if I needed to find it to chase my demons away. I mean it is listed as a made for tv movie with the likeable Doug McClure in the lead role. True it also starred Kim Novak who was awesome in the Alfred Hitchc0ck's "Vertigo", but she had done so many other less tormented roles to date. So just how scary could "Satan's Triangle" really be?
But by digging deeper and reading the user reviews .. I suddenly realized I was not alone in my traumatized horror of this movie from my childhood.. Here are a few excerpts from the user comments:
"Positively terrifying supernatural mystery"
"scariest 'derelict ship' movie that Hollywood has ever made."
"An ending that gave me nightmares!"
"Atmospheric, spooky TV chiller with some graphic images"
"I was about 12 years old and it's the only film that has really scared the living daylights out of me!"
Well you know I had to order it after reading all of that!

The ending of Sleepaway Camp, not the movie as a whole, but the ending! The whole setup, her being a dude, the *bleep* hanging there, her eating a guy like a praying mantis, her walk towards the camera, her distorted face and the eyes, those eyes was in my nightmares for years. Think I was 11 when I saw it. Bought the dvd a year ago or so, to confront my demons, and all the old chills came back. even tried to watch it with the audio commentary (which I always do) to try and de-mystify it, but it didn't help. I gave it away. Sometimes it's just that ONE thing that gets you. I use to be a big horror freak, and not even the most demented italo cannibal flick could scare me or gross me out. But Angela sure could.

As a very young child I would have nightmares of Frankenstein, then the Bloody Mary myth kept me awake nights-didn't help there was a HUGE mirror in my room!
I couldn't slept after seeing The Beast Within in the theater-but that didn't last long.
I can never watch movies like The Exorcist because I think stuff like that happens-plus I can't handle watching people move in unnatural ways-bent backwards etc. Totally freaks me out!
I get JAY LEE on the eye thing-I can't directly look at Lady Gaga's fish globe eyes in her Bad Romance vid.
I'll have to check out Satan's Triangle-I like atmospheric movies. Carnival of Souls is a good one, but you have to overlook the bloopers.

PS: Dead Birds (2004) is one I haven't watched all the way through. Talk about atmosphere-the creepy dread filled music plays continuously so you always feel tense. Then the ugly jumps out scaring the cr*p out of you! One of the demon images from this movie is in a lot of those "look closer" youtube vids.

2 movies scared the hell out of me and they still have the same effect - nightmare on elm street - i didnt want to sleep for a long time - i was only 12 and shouldnt have watched it and the second is Halloween - saw that at aged 9 and that really damaged me.

There's a 1999 movie called Kolobos-that while it didn't scare me, had really horrific killing scenes, up there with 1988's Night of The Demons.

Bamersy.. "Kolobos" was gruesome, but actually a great slasher flick.
Oneyed.. while "Halloween" doesn't truly frighten me anymore, the original movie is still my all-time favorite horror film. Always a Halloween night staple at my house.

your showing your true 80s loyalty there valley-cudos to you even though its 78. It still to me feels like an 80s film, maybe coz thats when i watched it. When jamie curtis is running through the streets trying to get away, it reminds me of that dream i sometimes have when your running and not getting anywhere.

I agree, my friend and I had a standing "Friday night date" for years, where we would rent horror movies-sometimes she would fall asleep leaving me to fend for myself Kolobos impressed us by being unique.
Just read up on Sleepaway Camp-may have to see it soon...

The Evil (1978)
I barely could breathe after i watched this one. Still cool haunted house flick and you can see the devil himself in the end.
Nightmare aka Nightmare in a Damaged Brain (1981)
This was actually banned here but somehow one of my friends cousin had uncut VHS copy. This surely damaged my brain. To this day i haven´t watched this one again.
Halloween II (1981)
Watched this one with my friends and everyone felt uneasy. I watched the flick through my fingers Still a classic sequel i enjoy every now and then.
There must be much more...

Never saw "IT" but did read the book-which was good and scary. They all float down here Georgie. Not a good movie for those with Coulrophobia.

I watched freddys dead when i was 11 at a friends house was then completely freaked out for years about it every time i even seen him i had nightmares,its only in the last 3 years that ive actually watched them all without getting scared!

It depends on your taste and tolerance for horror movies Willy. I've been watching horror & cult movies all my life so I have a pretty high tolerance for them and it takes alot to really freak me out nowadays. So this movie is more funny to me now than scary and it doesn't really freak me out anymore. If you have yet to see it though I highly recommend giving it a try. Preferably late at night with all the lights out. It's a 50/50 toss up really. You'll either be freaked out by it, or you'll laugh at it's gratuitous cheesiness. Or perhaps even a little bit of both. It Just depends on your tolerance for spooky stuff.
..And another thing..I'm gonna go ahead and add "THE EXORCIST" to my list...who can honestly say they were'nt freaked out by that movie as a kid?
