What I can remember is that's a movie from the early 80's (1986 tops). There's a guy joining a band and the keyboardist (who I thought was played by Gary Busey but I may be wrong) is usually drunk or drugged at practice or shows and eventually dies...

Rings a bell ?!

Well !! After a couple of years of searching this movie, I finally found it !

Thunder alley (1985)
and the keyboard player I thought was Gary Busey is Scott McGinnis...
