Another 90's movie with an 80's soundtrack:
The Wedding Singer

Then there's Donnie Darko from 2001.

Tuff Turf-love that John Carroll!

Thought of some more:

Xanadu (love ELO)
Risky Business
Legend (Tangerine Dream)
Sixteen Candles
The Idolmaker

One of my all time favorite songs is the restyled Metropolis soundtrack-"Here's My Heart" by Pat Benatar [Smile]

Not my style but should be mentioned:

Flashdance
Fame
Endless Love
The Pirate Movie
The Night the Lights Went Out in Georgia

aTomik mentioned Heavy Metal-gotta be one of the best. Devo "Working in the Coal Mine". After Valley Girl, of course [Smile]

I was recently at a comic-con in Chicago digging through original 80's movie sountracks. They were all $40 each. In looking at ebay and amazon, the prices get a little better, but amazon doesn;t have everything and I don't really like getting into bidding games with people (too much energy).

Does anyone know of a great lead to find original 80's soundtracks inexpensively? I just got The Karate Kid on i-tunes, but lost my purchased library once when I didn't back up to my external drive, so I would really like to just own the hard copy disc.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated & Thanks!

Earl I've always wondered this too and if someone has the answer?? I'm betting Ebay is the way to go. I go to Goodwill/antique/ thrift stores all the time......what kills me is I NEVER find music.....albums, cassettes, cd's rarely ever. [Frown] I think music is just a bigger collector. so there is a bigger market?

Earl: Unless you can find it used at a local record store (if you still have any nearby), ebay and amazon are usually your best bet. However, at this point most things from the 80s are already marked up and we consumers are getting gouged like crazy.

Muffy: I agree with you, I think there are more music collectors out there, so the demand is higher.

I have been listening to the Date With An Angel soundtrack a lot lately. It's like WOW! so good.

Great thread!

Earl, I've used this site, but only for some '80s scores rather than soundtracks, but still a good source.

http://www.lalalandrecords.com/

Pork Pie Mcfly - This is a personal favourite s/t of mine, great '80s sounds, go synthesizer!

 -

Also the three Miami Vice soundtracks are really good, the Jan Hammer score is also worth a listen!

I bought this recently for 5 bucks. I doesn't do anything for me. I think that's because the movie doesn't do anything for me either.

Muffy & Secret Admirer - Thanks for the feedback! This is why I so need to live in New York or Chicago and not Dixon, Illinois where our claim to fame is Ronald Reagan boyhood home and zero record stores [Mad]

I am only about 90 minutes from downtown Chicago though, so maybe one of these days I will take a day and go exploring.

Bodhi - Awwwwesome soundtrack: To Live and Die in LA. This is one of the ones I am definitely looking for...I saw it on i-tunes and may just have to go ahead and get it and simply get better at backing up my music right away!

Thanks for the help all...greatly appreciated!!! - Earl

Honestly Earl, Amazon is probably your best bet. If you do get to Chicago, check out Reckless Records, they have a pretty good selection of 80's stuff. Kinda expensive though.

No problem Earl, it's a really great album, if you're ever getting chased in your car (and hopefully you won't be!) play tracks 5 and 7, I'm sure it will increase your chances of getting away! [Wink]

Devo surprised you don't like it, and the movie too! Is it the surprise, down beat ending?

AtoMik great list! Near Dark is a great score! John Carpenter's scores too but hard to come by..

I love 'Less Than Zero' score too, Point Break, Tango & Cash... so many.. I think we should all move over to the '80s music section!

I definitely don't get into movie scores as much as I do the various artist soundtracks, but once in a while it's fun to kick back and listen to the instrumentals.

Here's something cool. Have you guys ever heard a soundtrack before watching the movie for the first time? I did this with Thief Of Hearts. I had the soundtrack way before I ever watched the movie. I love that soundtrack, so I got to know the songs by heart, and then when I finally watched the movie for the first time, it was a really cool experience. I think I enjoyed the movie even more because of it.
