i bought this movie for 10 dollars at suncoast yesterday. my husband and i had never seen it. i know some rewinders have talked about this movie over the years. i hope it's good...

was this movie trying to push the sales for the power glove, back in the day. i had totally forgotten about that thing, until i saw the cover of the dvd lol!

I love this movie Ronnie, I think you guys will too. It pushes alot of Nintendo products and video games in general in this movie..... it is a good flick though.

"I love the Power Glove. It's so bad."

At least they were honest, it really is incredibly horrible and bad [Big Grin]

I actually saw this in the theater and they gave everyone a tiny promotional nintendo power magazine (to try and get you to subscribe, of course)..

It's a huge favorite here but I was always a bit of a Nintendo fanboy.

I hosted a theatrical revival screening of it earlier in the year and director Todd Holland, star Luke Edwards & editor Tom Finan all came out to talk about it.

A quick clip of the Q&A is on youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e1uDrT0op7I

The Wizard is a cool movie.

I remember the Nintendo days well,
(i could play Mario from beginning to end with my eyes shut [Cool] )
but never got in touch with the mighty power glove.

watched it today. i thought it was cute. seeing all those games really took me back.

dvscheshire - that "i love the power glove" line, had me chuckling. it definitely was cheesy.

was the mario 3 game out before this movie or was the game introduced for the first time in it?

Fred Savage was a name that meant something back then, good actor. The Wizard was all hype IMO, mildly entertaining fluff.

Ronnie, Super Mario Bros 3 was released in 1990, The Wizard in December 89.

The best review I've read was by Rita Kempley of 'The Washington Post' who concluded that "The Wizard is not only tacky and moribund, but it teaches gambling and bad sportsmanship". [Smile]

Wizard lacked something imo, like the kid was so quiet just because he missed his twin sister ... should have been a cooler explanation for that... like a rainman kind of explanation.

Cute, well shot for an 80s movie

the thing that always made me laugh was that kid in the movie was supposed to be a Wizard at games..but myself, and almost every one of my friends could get well past 50,000 on Double Dragon with our eyes closed..he really wasn't that great.

Seankmichael brought this film to my attention the other day with his post on the 80s cover art and posters thread,i was wondering I've never seen this film (the wizard) personally and does it make a difference or not if you was into the whole Nintendo scene to how enjoyable the film is overall.

Because I got to admit I've never owned a nes or really played any of the Mario games, tell a lie I played Mario racing and that was pretty cool.

Saying that i've always been into video games and owned many a game system so I don't see why I wouldn't find it entertaining.

You can definitely enjoy the film without the NES connection.
I had already changed to Sega when this was released but it didn´t bother me at all. I only played Mario 3 couple of times back in the day.

I was more of a Atari 2600 man myself, then later on I had a amstrad cpc464 http://www.retrogamer.net/profiles/hardware/amstrad-cpc-464/ even though everyone at the time seemed to favour the commodore 64 and then i had a Sega and then so on to the xbox's,not moved on to the next gen yet - Xbox one,ps4 waiting for bit of a price drop.
