I didn't really care for it. Everyone's just way to flighty and aloof to buy that Dempsey would come to care so deeply for them. Plus I hate movies where guys dote after women that just play non-stop games. I can't identify with that at all. There are a few funny parts, but mostly it just bored me to death.

Haven't seen it in years, but always like Patrick Dempsey in his early, awkward roles. I seem to recall the film was actually filmed somewhere in Quebec.

I just watched it not all that long ago- it wasn't that great. It was actually pretty strange. I agree with journey, the characters were way too flighty.

I stumbled across this movie a few years back when I was home sick from work. It was on some movie channel and I was intrigued. I ended up buying the VHS at the time cause I wanted to see it from the beginning. I was shocked to see that Patrick Dempsey went full frontal nudity for this movie!?! Yeah, shocking ladies!
Here's the bad part, when this finally got a DVD release, they cut that part! I sold my VHS copy! Oh well, it wasn't anything to write home about in the end but nevertheless, it's kind of cool to see that he went THERE! Haha !

I really like this movie. It is somewhat unusual and different. Our buddy Dempsey gets dumped into a household of unusual characters and deals with the culture clash that results. There's a powerful sentimental theme that underlies the overall story and it's really touching. A decidedly off-beat movie for its time, but truly enjoyable and worth the watch.

I like Patrick Dempsey and absolutely adore Jennifer Connelly but i got to admit like many others here that this is one strange movie though saying that i didn't totally dislike it in fact for the first 40 minutes I found to be rather entertaining!
The problem for me was from the Moment they travel out into the Quebec countryside looking for the girls granny as I felt that the movie just went completely flat for a good half hour or so!
Positive's here - for me was how great the wintry city of Quebec looked as I thought it looked absolutely stunning!
Has anyone on here ever traveled there?
Also the performance's as I thought they were all good!
Negatives here - the girls dad sat around in the nude writing
Actually Pacing issues I'd say plus i don't think they really knew in which direction to take the story in,for me the movie started of strong enough but by about two thirds of the way through it really started to drag!
Still not bad and i don't regret buying it,i had watched it years back when it was first released so i sort of knew what i was getting myself into!
If I was to score It I'd still score it about a 6.5 /10 despite its many flaws!

My memory of it was being irritated with the family. It was like they had some kind of in-joke going on and Patrick wasn't let in on it. I wanted to slap them.

Your memory of it serves you well Logan as it was very much like that and at times you was sort of praying for someone to drop a bomb on them!
