A couple people at my work (including myself) say "Doctor" everytime we see each other. It's gotten really old. But I'll always love the movie.

Definitely belongs in the 80s collection.

I love the scene during the operation he doesn't know where to cut the patient and he keeps looking at the other doctors as he moves the scalpel down inch by inch until they give him the nod. [Wink]

Love Chevy's attempts at cheating during the exam ("I can't take the pressure, I can't, I can't take it!!!"), their training regiment (particularly the climactic "Bottom Gun" drill and their a-little-too-intense ride in the centrifuge), and Chevy's attempt at spinning the interrogation scene as mentioned above ("Why am I here? Why are you here; why is anyone here? I believe it was John-Paul Satre who said...how do you spell Satre?").

Did Ackroyd & Chase work in any other movies together? if they didn't, they should have.

Austin Millbarge: Find a rock! Go the the SatScram terminal! Smash that thing!
[Fitz-Hume smashes terminal]
Emmett Fitz-Hume: It's broken.
Austin Millbarge: Bring it here.
[Fitz-Hume shrugs and walks towards Milbarge holding rock instead of the terminal]
Austin Millbarge: Not the rock!

Russian Interregator #2: Every minute you don't tell us why you are here, I cut off a finger.
Emmett Fitz-Hume: Mine or yours?
Russian Interregator #2: Yours.
Emmett Fitz-Hume: Damn!

Austin Millbarge: [Listening to faint music] It's... ”Soul Finger" by the Bar Kays
Emmett Fitz-Hume: They must be havin' a hard time getting gigs.

The in-joke being that Dan Ackroyd is a big soul & blues fan and 'Soul Finger' contains the riff they used for the Ghostbusters theme.

I know they were both in Nothing But Trouble ('91). If you look closely in that movie, Dan Aykroyd had a weiner for a nose. Would've loved to see Chevy as a 5th Ghostbuster.

I picked up the Spies Like Us and Nothing But Trouble DVD Double Feature. Ackroyd calls Trouble a misfire, but I thought it was weirdly funny. John Candy, Ackroyd, Chase...it just does not get much better than those guys. I think Ackroyd was actually one of the twins Bobo or Lil' Debble.

Great quotes from 'Spies' guys...you rattled off the classics!

Chevy was in an AAMI advertisement here in Australia in which he played an American tourist who is an incompetent driver. He is watching a television show about bad drivers on his television in his hotel room and it then focuses on one particularly bad example who keeps running everybody else off the road with his appalling driving with the host saying, "Check out this bozo. Where did he get his driver's licence?" To which Chevy responds derisively "Los Angeles, pal." And then Chevy discovers to his shock as well as disbelief that it is in fact him.

Hard to believe Fitz-Hume's role was originally intended for Belushi. But as with Venkman, it ultimately ended up better in another set of hands.

Did anybody spy at all Bob Hope's cameo appearance? He features as himself, as does writer/journalist Edwin Newman.

Just saw a Bio on him. Apparently his father was very mean to him. His whole family treated him like crap. They sent him away to boarding school and that's where his comedy sprang to life. They also said that when you watch the movie "Fletch" that it's the "real" Chevy Chase. He ad-libbed most of the movie...

Well, you know what they say, comedy springs from sadness and tragedy--in Chevy's case living through an ugly divorce and having to put up with an insane mother and a sociopathic stepfather. It's all an eternal quest for true happiness than likely you can never have.

Recently re-watched "Spies like Us" for the first time in a while - I had forgotten how great this film was - I laughed out load throughout much of this, and that rarely happens with me.

Very funny one-liners - I was especially amused at the scene when Chevy Chase was obviously trying to "cheat" on the exam, and ineptly & obviously tried to "bribe" the instructor (played by Frank Oz, who was the voice of "Yoda" in the SW films):

Emmett Fitz-Hume: Oh. Uh, will you hold my wallet for me while I take the test, please? There's a thousand dollars in there... or maybe there isn't. Know what I mean?

Test Monitor: Are you saying I can take this money if I help you pass the test?

Emmett Fitz-Hume: What do you think?

Hilarious!!!! LOL.

Though this is obviously dated re: the cold war setting, it's still one of my favorite '80's comedies.

I will say that the DVD transfer really needs an upgrade; the version I saw (which I think is the only one out there) was from 1998, and it was a full-screen print, not widescreen. The picture was fairly poor as well.

I'd like to see this released to Blu-ray, with the proper Anamorphic Widescreen aspect ratio.

Fun film Nostalgic that I got to watch in the theatres upon its release,i have it on a US Blu Ray release where it's paired up with another fun Chevy pic Funny Farm.

Picture is in a 1.78:1 wide-screen and overall it's none too shabby and is a big upgrade on the previous DVD.

Definitely worth a pick up especially if like me you are a fan of Funny Farm as well!

Both films are on one disc and there are sadly no new extras but the picture and sound quality of both features are decent and a big step up from the old DVDs.

I actually picked it up while I was on holiday stateside from a Walmart in Pigeon Forge back in August 2010 for a pretty decent price and i would imagine that it's cheaper still now!

Definitely worth picking up gordogecko and Nostalgic if you do see it going cheap!

Great news - Thanks for the info. I honestly could care less about special features - I'm only into the movie itself, presented in the Anamorphic Widescreen format & the best picture quality/sound/color possible.

The only special features I typically watch are movie trailers, and I can always find those online if I want to see them.
