Yeah, very kid-oriented, but still fun. It kind of fits in with the likes of The Last Starfighter, Explorers, E.T. or The Never-Ending Story as far as tone goes.

Mamamia... you're making me cry! You need saving from yourself!

The movie is great if you're a kid. Very dated stuff now, but still watchable. Journey nailed the similar style movies above. I'd say that this is too Disneyfied and TV movieish to really compete with those films, though. It always seemed to me that they were making another 'movie of the week' and then realised they had something good so they threw some more money into the effects. It has a great premise.
