Does anyone know what that lovely classical piece of music is called that Barret Oliver (Daryl) played when he was learning piano from his foster mum ?

I believe is must have been written by a great composer and not just written for the film !

Thanks

This is all that is listed for the soundtrack on IMDb:

"SOMEWHERE I BELONG"
Music by Marvin Hamlisch
Lyrics by Dean Pitchford
Performed by Teddy Pendergrass
Courtesy of Elektra/Asylum Records

If this is the song you are talking about.

Update - this is the song at the end of the movie.

Thanks 80sRocked but the one you have mentioned is the main theme I have heard this Teddy Pendergrass song in it's full length on Youtube !
Unfortunately I have still had no luck in indentifying the classical piano piece. I think I will have to approach someone who knows a lot about classical music and whistle it to them !!

Thanks aagain.

If a movie uses a piece of copyrighted music, it is almost surely mentioned in the end credits, no matter how little of it they use! Have you researched all the titles in the credits?

Hi Jaylee
Yes I did check the credits carefully and no mention I'm affraid (except for the title theme 'Somwhere I belong'.) I do not believe it is mandatory to mention music which is over a certain age like a classical piece written a long time back ! I heard that copyright expires after 30 years or something like that. Some films do have concise listings but not in this case ! I know that songs written by popular bands featured in films always have mention in film credits.

Thanks anyway.

Finally found out after attaching a clip of the music and sent it on a classical music forum !
It's called Nel cor più non mi sento. Beethoven made six arrangements of this but it was originally written by Paisiello ! In the film you hear a few of Beethoven's arrangements.
