Being that Im a Big Time '80s Nostalgia Nut I decided to rent breakdancing movies. The first one to arrive was BREAKIN'. I stocked up on plenty of beer , figuring "I'm gonna NEED it to get through this!" (lemme take a moment to point out that not only was I never a big fan of this type of music , but that I usually hate "dance movies" like FOOTLOOSE, FLASHDANCE etc.) and I settled in for what I thought would be a night of cheap laughs.
Well- color me pleasantly surprised! I actually LIKED this movie!
Sure it was sort of cheesy - but arent MOST 80s movies???
I thought I would spend a lot of this movie going "Lookit what they're wearing!" but oddly enough I didn't because I remember sort of dressing this way as a teenager (oaky, maybe I was a more toned down version..but still...spandex was my friend!)
The one scene that is HILARIOUS is the now infamous scene where Jean Claude Van Damme is an extra and he is just dancin his little heart out in a spandex one piece outfit (do boys call that a "unitard"???) and he's just about KNOCKING the other extras over to make sure he's in the scene! I laughed til I CRYED!
But aside from that - this movie actually had some decent music in it (Ain't Nobody by CHAKA KAHN - I was so happy when that song went on! and that catchy Aint No Stoppin' Us song that I have been walking around my house singing ever since!) , great dancing, and even a cameo by ICE T (waaaaaaaaaay before LAW & ORDER).
I would definately recommend this movie to anyone who hasn't seen it yet and likes to watch Ahhhhh-Remember-The-'80s cinema.
My Score: A solid 8
Next up: BREAKIN' 2!

I never noticed that snooty guy was actually Mr. Muscles from Brussels. Even though he's trying hard enough to get into the picture.
I saw Breakin at the movies, way back in 1984. And I absolutely loved it back then. Now... it just became too sheezy for me to sit through. I rather watch 'Beat Street' instead.
I also have the soundtrack on vinyl, with 'Reckless' and '99 1/2' being my favorite songs.

Ha...Isis has been waiting 5 years for this posting and she's on vacation. Classic
I'm a huge fan of the original Breakin', however the second one..not so much. I really liked the part where Turbo danced on the walls and ceilings, but the script was very weak compared to the first movie. I enjoyed seeing everyone again, but it was almost like they weren't prepared for the success of the first movie and churned out something overnight.
The original is a fun movie that did a good job of not turning it into a Kelly and Orlando love story. I really thought Lucinda Dlckey gave Kelly depth by not just falling into Ozone's arms. My favorite parts are when Ozone and Turbo teach Kelly to breakdance while the tune "Ain't Nobody" is playing. Also, the dancing at the studio to "99 1/2" is awesome.

Have you guys seen the movie Breakin' 3 Senior Boogaloo? It follows the dancers from the first two movies, and, shows them in the future when they are seniors... It's really good.
Here are some shots from the movie:
Just warming up...
Me too!
Looks like it's time for a "dance off"!!! Hey you in the back row, get with the program!
OK, was it the left foot first, or the right foot?
Even the cat is into it... Who's your kitty???!

- Install the tool accepting all of the defaults during the installation.
- Create the screensaver: -- Double click on the program "WG Screensaver Creator 1.0" to launch it -- Click on "Add File", select the file you saved "Funny_Pictures_Animated_Dancing_Cat.gif" -- In the field called "Screen saver Name" type in a name you will remember e.g. "CrazyCat" -- Select the background color (I prefer black) -- Under "Image Size" select what you want (I would choose original size, it seems to work better) -- Click on "Preview Screen Saver" to see what it should look like -- If you are happy then click on "Create Screen Saver" -- It will tell you when it's finished
- Now, open your screen saver settings manager and select your new screen saver
-- Right click on your desktop and select "Properties", click on the Screen Saver tab, In the box called "Screen Saver" click on the drop-down menu and select the screen saver you created i.e. "CrazyCat"
You are done!
There are other screen saver tools out there. This one is free and there are about four others available from the website "http://www.download.com"
This is the first one I've tried...
- Jdoc
OK, I forgot to mention that you can add multiple files...

Mamamia-I can't believe you never saw this movie.
It is one of my top 5 favorite 80's movies.
I watched it on HBO all the time when I was a kid, but then I forgot about it...but about 7-8 years ago I found it again, and I went nuts when I saw it again. I loved the clothes. I wore all that stuff...even Kelly's waitress outfit, was the EXACT same outfit I wore as a candy striper when I was in high school.
I even had her same hair style in the 9th grade.
I love everything about this movie...even Franco...what a weasel he is...trying to put the moves on Kelly....what a creep. I like when she tells him off at the party.
I love the scene to "Ain't Nobody". I have both Breakin soundtracks...I love every song. I haven't read what was written about Electric Boogaloo...but I love it too.
Did anyone know that in the beginning credits of Breakin you will see Lela Rochon...she was married to "Ozone" briefly.
I love the "broom" scene with Turbo.
I LOVE the dance off with Electro Rock. I never could stand the girl they had dancing with them. She's in Part 2.
I LOVE LOVE LOVE when they dance at the end to "There's No Stoppin Us", then I love the Street Jazz dance....it looks like a Solid Gold episode....and it's cool that even the Electro Rock dancers are dancing in that part.
This is the movie that made me a huge Lucinda ****ey fan.
Valley is right...I like that she and Ozone didn't get in to a relationship, and that they were all friends, and they didn't throw in a major love scene...and the movie was focused on the dancing.

I dont like to buy movies right after I watch them so maybe I'll buy myself a copy of BREAKIN' for Christmas.
I have BODY ROCK (which is SUPPOSED to be so-terrible-its-funny) , BEAT STREET,ROOFTOPS, KRUSH GROOVE and WILD STYLE near the top of my NETFLIX que so I'll be watching THOSE pretty soon....but I have a feeling BREAKIN' is gonna be hard to top.

With all the chat about Breakin' 3, there is actually a script that is a twist on "The Karate Kid" with Turbo as the Mr. Miyagish type character. I'm not sure if it will ever get made, but the way they are remaking 80's movies, it is quite possible.

That scene Valley posted from Breakin, is one of my all time favorite scenes in any movie...ever.
I love it.
I remember when I was 16....this guy we were all friends with he came to my cousin's 16th birthday party that we had at my house...and we had a piece of linoleum out on our patio and we had crepe paper everywhere...we had a bunch of lights...one was a stop light thing...and we drug my entire stereo system out on the patio...with all my LP records...and we all attempted Breakdancing....I use to take aerobics in the 80's....above a Fox's Pizza place...and we did aerobic routines like dances..and I wore all the matching leotard outfits...even in the winter...I had the legwarmers and skin tight leotards on....and me and my girlfriend would go down to the pizza place after aerobics...and there was a guy who worked there-his parents owned the place- he had a crush on me....he would always give us a free pepsi.
That was so much fun. That was also our hang out when I was a teenager.

I also just watched this movie for the first time a few months ago (after having seen the Jean-Claude scene on Youtube) and was really surprised how cool it was. The story is cliched and acting a little flat, but I thought it was awesome that they actually used real people who could dance and not doubles (man I hate that). The dance scenes are CRAZY! And as you mentioned as well - one of the best soundtracks of the 80s, EVERY song is good. If you haven't seen it, check it out!

I watched Breakin´. I didn´t remember that this was a Cannon/Golan-Globus movie. What would the 80s be without those guys!?
I love this flick. Everything in this is just awesome.
Lucinda D1ckey is very pretty (now i have to watch Ninja III: The Domination again)
The soundtrack is one of the best ever. I mean it has Kraftwerk and everything. This end credits song by 3V/Dan Hartman rules: "Heart Of The Beat" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Aui9X1peA8M
Now i need to get Breakin' 2: Electric Boogaloo.
