It is a good day! Comcast On Demand is playing NOTC on their Fear Net channel for free!! I recorded in on dvd-r last night and I am so psyched!!!

This is a movie that is long overdue for an official DVD release but I'm not complaining because at least I have a crystal clear burned copy. The quality was excellent on Fear Net! Yay!

A couple of things regarding this flick. First of all, I thought of Muffy and a topic she brought up a little while back about how there were alot of 80's movies that were set in the 50's or had some fifties themes. This is one of them. I love how the movie starts out in 1959 and how there are alot of oldies played in the movie but then it flashes to 1986! So cool. I am now loving the Jane Wiedlin song, "Blue Kiss" after seeing the opening party scene. Need to get that song!

Second, I'm watching this movie and I'm like, who is this main girl? And then it hit me...it was the girl from the perfume counter in Weird Science, Jill Whitlow. She was really cute and it was cool to see her in something else. She was also in Porky's. I think she has a scene with Meat now that I think about it. Wonder where she is now? There was also another Weird Science tie in...the girl who played Deb, Suzanne Snyder (Killer Klowns from Outer Space), also has a bit part in NOTC. Love those pop-ups!

Third, it was good to see Jason Lively in something other than European Vacation. Pretty cool that he is Robin's brother.

Fourth, I think the creepiest scene is when Jason Lively's character is back in his dorm room and he listens to the message his friend recorded for him. The way they made his friend's voice sound demonic now that he was becoming a zombie was scary. Gave me the chills.

Fifth, a co-worker of mine brought to my attention that all of the characters are named after horror movie directors...for example, J.C. is for John Carpenter (Halloween, etc), Cindy Cronenberg was for David Cronenberg (Rabid & Shivers) and Chris Romero for George Romero(Night of the Living Dead). Just a little trivia for ya. Did you know this Valley??

Finally, I'll wrap up with the best line of the movie..."Hey girls, the good news is your dates are here. The bad news is, they're dead! Classic!!!

Who else loves this movie??

i love night of the creeps. and all the tidbits you mentioned, cindy.. are things i discoverd myself as i went researching one day.. being the movie nerd i am [Big Grin] .

the part where he listens to his friend's recording is definitely spooky.
the first time i saw this movie, was when it premiered on cable back in the 80s. i was asleep in the living room and woke up (the tv was on) to the scene where the friend is in the bathroom and sees a slug scatter paased him on the floor.
i was so afraid to move, i just layed there watching the rest of the movie. it as hard to go back to sleep that night but i loved it.

i have a good vhs copy, with the original cover art. i feel that if an official dvd were to be released, the cover art would change drastically.

the detective in the movie was in john carpenter's the fog, and halloween 3 (his character's name was nick castle.. the guy who played michael myers in the orginal halloween). [Wink]

i believe jason lively and jill whitlow were also in another movie together.. i can't remember the name but it had GHOST in the title. it was a bit hokey, but i don't remember what it was about. i bought the dvd and watched it only once.

jill is gorgeous to me. she was very beautiful in weird science!

I love Night of the Creeps.

The film was cut when it was released on video here in Finland in the 80´s.

Couple of years ago one channel played it
and it was uncut.
Of course i taped it.

I have to watch it at least once/year.

Basically a cast of relative unknowns, the biggest star was probably David Paymer who you would remember from "City Slickers" or maybe "Howard the Duck". I recognized Suzanne Snyder too Cindy from another fav "Killer Klowns From Outer Space". Which I watched a long time ago because it had Grant Cramer from "Hardbodies" in it and jumped on its cult following.

This movie was a definitely an above average B-Horror/Comedy. It did play a little at times like Michael Jackson's Thriller video, but still a very good flick.

Yeah and I really like the original cover art!! I mean, look at it...it's a classic 80's cartoonish masterpiece! If there ever is a DVD released, the new cover art will probably try to make it look like some suped up Night of the Living Dead ripoff!

Aha! This is one of my faves! It has that groovy 80's b-movie feel, but it definately has more going for it than yer average b-movie!
I love the axe murderer\zombie subplot and how it connects the 50's and 80's story together. The part where it breaks through from under the den mother's floor is super creepy... As is the part where they corner it in the alley and it turns around real slowly. Brrrrrr! Spooky! [Eek!]

Ronnie, that movie with Jason Lively and Jill Whitlow is called "Ghost Chase". Jason's dad Ernie Lively was in it too.

Oh and the part you mentioned where he listens to the recording is creepy cool and might be my favorite part. [Eek!]

I love this movie and I don't own it!!

Interesting enough I was watching the Monster Squad DVD extras and Fred Dekker wrote and directed Night of the Creeps before and he talks about it in the extras of the Monster Squad DVD

MGMHD is a goldmine of lost Cindy Mancini bargain bin movies (I'm starting to think Cindy does the programming) and I can no longer remember the complications of life without a DVR.

Devolution here,

DVR without DVD recorder in 2008 is like HBO without a VCR in 1988.

I have a dvd recorder, but its not built into the box....it still serves the purpose, but what you are describing sounds awesome. I am HD though (only 1080i because I haven't forked over the extra kwan for 1080p just yet) and it sounds like I need to make a call to Directv to upgrade.

Cindy, I got so caught up in the utter fun....I never answered your question about the characters being named after horror directors. I did not know that little factoid, score one for Ronnie and Cindy. As you both know, I love that kind of stuff......so please keep sharing.
