I just posted in another thread about a movie I rented with Jason Bateman in it called The Ex and it got me to thinking about him...I always enjoyed him on Silver Spoons as Derek. Totally had the preppy look down and was so arrogant you couldn't help but laugh. I know he did Teen Wolf Too but I have only seen bits and pieces. Are there any other 80's movies he was in that you guys would recommend? And if anybody has seen Arrested Development, would I like it?

I don't think he did many movies in the 80's. He was in the sitcom "The Hogan Family" which wasn't too bad.

Cindy, come on Arrested Development is 100% amazing!!!
I own all three seasons.
It's beyond great.
We are DEVO
Is this a series of the comedy variety? Also, is Bateman a main character? I know I could look this up on IMDB but I'd rather you do the work and tell me Devo...hahah! Kidding...Seriuosly, I value the opinion.

Does anyone remember ITS YOUR MOVE, the show he did after SILVER SPOONS? I ffreakin loved it! Wish they'd release THAT on DVD! He was pretty much the same kind of smart-azz kid Derek was. (Derek was always the best thing about SILVER SPOONS in my opinion).
Jason Bateman was in JUNO, which - I hate to disagree with the masses- was a terrrrrrrrrible movie - but he, as always, was good.
And I used to watch ARRESTED DEVELOPMENT when it was on TV. it was a funny show and even though he was pretty much "straight man" he was very good in it.
There is somnething about him that is very appealing to me- maybe its because he really hasnt aged! He still looks as good now as he did on HOGAN FAMILY! (another good show)

Jason Bateman was the main star of Arrested Development. He was pretty much the only sane one in his very dysfunctional family. It's what I like to call a very smart comedy.

I thought that JUNO looked horrible from the previews, but then it was getting all this attention and even up for awards...I am glad to know someone watched it and thought it sucked.

I like Michael Cera from Juno. Never saw Juno yet but have liked him in everything else I've seen him in. He was Jason Bateman's son in Arrested Development. JUNO is on my list of movies I want to see.

I like Micahel Cera too...but he was not "used" very well in JUNO. His charactor is a little TOO dull....Really, he has not much to do in JUNO but blandly pop in a scene or two. If you like him rent SUPERBAD - much better movie.
I also totally believed Michael Cera and Jason Batemen as son and father in ARRESTED DEVELOPMENT: They look enough alike (especially to those of us who remember what Batemen looked like as a teenager). It was almost ODD to see them both in JUNO - it was like - well, after watching them as father and son on ARRESTED DEVELOPMENT I didnt want to wrap my mind around them as total strangers! Hahaha.
So here is my summary, children:
JUNO THINKS it is clever, ARRESTED DEVELOPMENT IS clever.

The mom in It's Your Move was Caren Kaye the same lady that Matt Latanzi had fun with in the movie My Tutor

Juno was actually a gem of a flick IMO. It's modern though so I can see why it's getting batted around on here. Arrested Development is the best thing Bateman's ever done I think. It saved his career IMO..........

Hmmmm....well, it seems we're split on JUNO here! So I guess anyone who hasnt seen it should rent it and make their own opinions about it. But - yeah, the only thing I took from that film was "well, at least it had Jason Batemen in it..."!

I liked JUNO. My friend Amy made me watch it and at first I was skeptical but as it went on, I got into it. Bateman's character turned out to be a real immature idiot. I loved the ending. I was shocked it went the way it did...IMHO, that's a good movie for ya .

I’m with Mamamia on Juno; the film felt like it was trying too hard to be smart. I thought the 'Juno' character was too much of a Mary Sue to make the film fully likable, and I also found the self-consciously hip dialogue slightly irritating after a while. There were too many mini rants about things in the film and it felt like the scriptwriter was wagging their finger at the viewer. I wasn't at all surprised to find that Diablo Cody had watched 'Ghost World' when she was writing Juno, there are some similarities between the two, but I think Ghost World trumps it easily.
Overall I liked it and found it entertaining but a little irritating. I certainly didn’t feel it was a good as it was made out to be (a case of too-high expectations maybe?)
Stumbled on this and it summed up everything I thought was wrong with the film in a nice jokey way:

I thought it was a movie about Alaska...
