Hey y'all, i've been trying to put a name to this movie for years. I remember watching it when i was 4-5 so it must've been made in the late 80's.
it is set like a labyrinth/dark crystal/legend/willow movie in that (i will guess) four or so main characters have to go on a quest to get to the ending/final showdown/etc. The make up is similar as well, i remember orc/goblin-like creatures and short, well dressed creatures as well. anyways, in the film, the one distinguishing part i can remember is that the main characters are eaten by a whale, or take a giant whale as transport. i cannnot remember much else, except that (MAYBE!) there is a chess game or board game inside of the whale and it is between one of the main characters and the creatures.
I apologize if this post is incredibly vague, it seems like the most annoying of my memories are the ones i remember the least about!
i found three of my other queries on the main site, but this one has eluded me once again, so thanks to you guys for ending some of my troubles!

I was wondering if it might have been Baron Munchausen. I really don't think it was Time Bandits.
Of course, with being swallowed by a whale, it could always be either Pinoccio or The Book Of Jonah.....!
