i cant remember the title and im not sure if its an 80's film....

this young boy gets separated from his dad and is bvought up by american indians and years later they are reunited when the boy tries to save his dad...

i cant really say anymore than that and the details might be fuzzy

It's a pretty generic idea and it could be many films, but from the 80's you might be thinking of 'The Emerald Forest':
