I'm looking to watch a good summer/camp 80's teen movie that catches the era of the 1980's at its best.
Just to give you an idea although its not strickly a teen movie, I love "The Great Outdoors" as it has a really cosy feel to it where they are holidaying out in the woods.
Any suggestions welcome,

Meatballs is the absolute best summer camp movie, in my opinion. Indian Summer is a very good 90's movie about adults getting together at the camp they went to when they were young. Little Darlings was an okay movie. Poison Ivy with Michael J. Fox & Nancy McKeon was good.

The question is for 80s movies, so though Meatballs is one of the best, it is 1979. The 80s Meatballs sequels were pretty bad - I should have added those to my "sequels that should enver been made" list.
On a related note, Little Darlings was made in 1980. But it really feels more like a 70s movie. Of course, the true decade of the 80s started in 1981 and ended in 1990 (since there was no year 0), but I don't expect the entire site to be reorganized, so I'll accept the fiction that 1980 was part of the 80s. Still, the 80s didn't take off until Reagan hit office. All of a sudden, the malaise of the 70s was over, hairstyles and clothes changed overnight, and America became the land of fun and greed once again. It was awesome.
So my runaway number on summer camp teen 80s movie has to be Dirty Dancing. Yes, Jennifer Gray was 27 playing a teen, but that was normal. Yes, the movie was set in the 1960s. Yes, most of the characters are adults, and Grey is a teen trying to fit in an adult world. But still, Dirty Dancing is a seminal 80s film and the very top movie for a lot of girls.
Number 2 for me is Earnest Goes to Camp. It is pure 80s, the entire movie is at a summer camp, and though the lead is older (like Meatballs), most of the characters are teens. It's good clean fun, evcn though it would not make my top twenty 80s teen movies. Summer camp just wasn't a popular venue back then for movies, except for horror movies - there are plenty of those!
