In light of several ommissions from EW's top 50 greatest high school flicks I think that we need to make up our own. Now the criteria for this should be it has to take place in or around a school, obviously in the 80s, and doesn't necessarily have to be in ranking order. For example, if you love like three or four that should be first don't worry because all of your top ten can be your number ones!

1. Sixteen Candles
2. Can't Buy Me Love
3. Just One of the Guys
4. Once Bitten
5. The Breakfast Club
6. Valley Girl
7. Pretty in Pink
8. Teen Wolf
9. Heathers
10. Back to the Future

Now these aren't all of them but they are the only ones I can think of. What can you come up with to add to the list and what would you change from my list?

Fast Times, Porky's (don't know if that one counts though cuz I think the characters are more from the 1960's). I'll have to think on soem others. I heard those guys on KROC talking about this and they didn't like BTTF because it was set in the 1950's; they just didn't feel that it fit with the other choices.

Moving to '80s Movies' board, as it's most appropriate there.

wow tough question. so many good choices.

In no particular irder and my choices might be different tomorrow.

*Fast Times
*Brakfast Club
*Ferris Bueller
*Last American Virgin
*Can't Buy Me Love
*Porkys
*Better Off Dead
*Karate Kid
*Valley Girl
*Sixteen Candles

Wish I could fit Dazed and Confused on my list but unfortunately it's a movie from the 90's set in the 70's; so doesn't qualify on either.

wtf????

there was no innocent parties in the past flamewars. there was enough blame to be thrown every direction and towards everybody. the only difference is that he decided to leave and we decided to stay, but nobody was innocent. we all contributed equally.

Like I said earlier John was as much to blame for the past flamewars as NOMS was just like you were as much to blame as I was or that Motley was. We all contributed equally and none of us were innocent. The only difference is that John and you decided to leave and the Motley, NOMS and I decided to stick around. He left on his own terms as you did.

I hadn't ran anyone off. People leave of their own free will. The only time I get testy is when someone basically lies and says they never said something or someone is blasted for having a particualr taste in something. People have different tastes and there's no need to say that's ugly, I hate that, your bitter, you have no taste, etc. Have you ever looked in the mirror and asked yourself the same question if you've ever ran anyone off? Actually I remember you causing a big stir when you said Patsy Kensit was ugly and anyone who thought likewise didn't have much to look at at home. I wouldn't have said that period, of course I have class.

I have no clue what you guys are talking about but I think this is the wrong place to be acting this way. Some of us just want to come on the board and have fun talking with other people who enjoy the movies that a lot of us grew up with.

I think Jesse, Isis, & Sammy Hain all have great lists but my list is going to be my top 10 teen movies, not top 10 high school movies, because teenage life isn't just about what happens at school.

So my list would be, in no particular order:

She's Out of Control
Pretty In Pink
Can't Buy Me Love
Breakfast Club
Some Kind of Wonderful
Tuff Turf
Valley Girl
Sixteen Candles
Summer School
Ferris Bueller

These are all movies that I could watch over & over and never get tired of.

Bob

Oh wow I forgot Ferris Bueller too. I also loved Fire with Fire--reform school or Catholic school it is still a school.

She's Out of Control
Some Kind of Wonderful

Maybe I should have made it the top 25 80s High school flicks. There really are just way to many make it on a list of 10! [Wink]

Our picks are...

1)The Breakfast Club
2)Pretty in Pink
3)Ferris Bueller's Day Off
4)Just one of the Guys
5)Summer School
6)Some kind of Wonderful
7)Sixteen Candles
8)Footloose
9)Dead Poet's Society
10)Can't Buy me Love

Those are the best High School movies, but out of all 80's movies, there'd be some changes

80s and high school - very limited criteria, but I think I can make it to 10 good ones:

1) Can't Buy Me Love
2) Breakfast Club
3) Fast Times at Ridgemont High
4) Sixteen Candles
5) Summer School
6) Ferris Bueller
7) Hiding Out
8) Better Off Dead
9) Heathers
10)Making the Grade

Honorable mentions: Pretty in Pink (2 Hughes are enough, and the 2 I picked are way better), Girls Just Wanna Have Fun, Romy and Michelle (though a 90s movie, a many scenes are 80s high school flashbacks)

I can't believe that no one, myself included, picked the first Bill & Ted movie. Definately a top 10 movie in my book.
