I had heard about this movie in passing for years but never actually got around to seeing it until this week. I hated it!!!
I thought it was just wrong on sooooo many levels. Now, I know the sex education teacher from Private School (Sylvia Kristel) was one of the main characters, and it was cool to see her in something else, but the whole storyline creeped me right out! The kid (Eric Brown) that she was giving the "lessons" to was a child!! He didn't even look like a teenager! EWWWWW! How this movie got made I don't know. To me, it was just disturbing. Anyone else see this and think it was just wrong???

Cindy, "Private Lessons" is disturbing on some levels because Eric Brown really was only 16 years old while Sylvia Kristel was 28 years old when they filmed the movie. In contrast, I prefer the movie "My Tutor" where Matt Lattanzi was actually 23 years old, but played a 17 year old. Either way, both movies treaded on a touchy area for most people.
I did enjoy the Earth, Wind, & Fire song as well as Howard Hesseman in "Private Lessons".

Yeah it was pretty creepy because that kid looked so young and it almost looked like a molesting type movie. It was in really poor taste in my opinion. I looked up the kid in it and I don't think he was ever in to many other projects since that.

Eric Brown was 17 (Born 1964) when the movie was made. I'm sure I don't need to point this out to anyone, but even if he WAS only 16 at the time, he was legal. There's no question of 'child' anything here.
However, please don't let that stop a good old knee-jerk reaction........

I am pretty sure that legal age for that stuff here is 18. If it has changed....I wish someone would let me know.

However, it's all immaterial, seeing as how, in Private Lessons, nobody actually had sex.....Posts: 3646 | From: Shermer, IL - where else? | Registered: Mar 2001 | Site Updates: 37

The age of consent in Pennsylvania is 16. I wonder how movies like Private School got made. Were those actors all over 16 or 18 or whatever the age of consent was in the state that the movie was made?

Eric Brown was 17 when the movie was released, but he was only 16 years old when they filmed it. The only point I was attempting to make was that the premise of "Private Lessons" and "My Tutor" is pretty much the same, but we accept it more in "My Tutor" because the guy playing the teenager was older in real life.

Okay, the point I was trying to make was that he looked really young. Too young to be bringing a 28 year old woman pleasure...EWWWW! I don't care if he was 33, he looked like a kid. Would you want to watch Webster getting it on? NO! Exactly, cause he still looks like a child and watching someone that resembles a child being sexual is beyond wrong and disturbing. It just doesn't feel right.
Oh and for the record, Betsey Russell and Phoebe Cates were both 20 in Private School, Matt Modine was 24 and Kathleen Wilhoite was 19.
