I'm betting that most people would agree that sequels are like remakes. The original is almost always better. There was a post on the 90s board about sequels we wish were never made. But here's my question. What sequels, regardless of decade, did you like? You might think it was better than the original or as good as the original.
For me, the first one would be "Hello, Mary Lou Prom Night 2." I liked it much better than "Prom Night." "Scream 2" was awful, but I liked "Scream 3." The 3rd part was nowhere near as good as the first, but it was decent. "Children of the Corn 2" was okay, much better than parts 3-7. I hated "Sleepaway Camp," but I liked "Sleepaway Camp 2."
What about the rest of you?

Pretty much universally accepted by fans and critics alike that The Godfather 2 was better than the original.

I was gonna say Godfather 2, but Godfather 3 stank out loud. I was the same way with Scream 2. We all stood in line for a midnight showing of Scream 2 and halfway through it I am sitting there thinking "God this sux." I liked the original Sleepaway Camp the best yet preferred Halloween 2 and Friday the 13th Part 3 better than both their originals.

I was on the edge of my seat for most of Scream 2 - and not so I could get out of there quick either. I actually really loved the film and found it to be equal to or slightly better than the first.
Scream 3 sucked it hard.

I liked SUPERMAN 2 a lot more than SUPERMAN 1...although SUPERMAN 1 was good too.
I liked INDIANA AND JONES AND THE TEMPLE OF DOOM as much as RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARC.

Toy Story 2 worked a little better than the first.
Austin Powers, the Spy Who Shagged Me also has a slight edge over International Man of Mystery in my book.

16 years later and I've a newfound appreciation for 'The Godfather III', if you can get past Sofia Coppola's bad acting its actually quite a serious and (literally) operatic conclusion to the classic saga.
Many sequels have worked over the years: T2, The Empire Strikes Back, Rush Hour 2, Beneath the planet of the apes (in a crazy kind of way) Bill & Ted's Bogus Journey, Beverly Hills Cop 2 and Back To The Future II.

Superman 2 was definitely my favorite of that Superman series. I loved the three villans that fight Superman. I loved the effects that actually looked like people flying around without all of the green screen effects that we see in stuff today.

I don't know. I guess the 3rd one just appealed more to me.

Speaking of sequels, Phantasm 2 is on at 11:35 tonight. Cinemax or Moremax, I think. It's been forever since I've seen it, and I can't remember how good it was, so I guess I'll check it out and see.

There a very few Part 2's that that I enjoy more than the original movies. Infact, the two that I'm going to name might need to be thrown out because I saw the second movie years before I ever saw the original. Isis has already named my two fav sequels:
Friday The 13th: Part 2
Jaws 2
I actually got to see these in the theater when they first came out....I was too young to see the originals when they were in the theaters. But after all these years, I would choose these two movies before the originals. In retrospect, the original "Jaws" is a much better movie, but the theater experience of "Jaws 2" with everyone screaming and throwing popcorn was a treat as kid.

I quite enjoyed Next Friday and also Friday After Next. I thought they were equally as good as the original Friday.

I have to agree with the already mentioned Beverly Hills Cop 1&2 and also BTTF 1&2. How about Fletch and Fletch Lives? The second is not quite as good as the first but it 's still pretty awesome.

OMG!! How could I have forgotten my Fridays??? Next Friday and Friday After Next were MUCH better than the original Friday. I liked Mike Epps and his Day-Day character a lot better than Chris Tucker's Smokey.

Christmas Vacation also stands up good to the original Vacation and in many ways is even superior to it. The others in the series I can't say the same for (probably because Hughes wasn't involved with either of them unlike with Xmas), but they do try to a degree, if unsuccessfully.
