Since Halloween is coming up, and there's all this talk about scary movies, I was wondering. What's the scariest movie you've ever seen and why? For me, it would be Phantasm. It scared the s*** out of me when I was little. The undertaker freaked me out, especially at the end when he was in the mirror and said, "Boy!"

The scariest movie to me is a movie I have never had the nerve to ever even watch...so I don't know if it actually would be the scariest...but the previews alone gave me nightmares as a kid....and that is : Salem's Lot.

no such thing as the 'scariest film I've ever seen' Horror films get me all... excited and I'm always trying to work out the pattern of the scares and how a particular special effect was done. however, the most 'disturbing' film I've ever seen is IRREVERSIBLE.

IRREVERSIBLE, huh? I dont know wthat one. Might have to check it out.
Going by childhood scares that still freak me out today I must say THE OTHER (Old 70s film about good twin, bad twin).
ALSO THE CHANGELING (George C Scott moves into house with eerie child ghost)
THE EXORCIST scared me as a kid...but now that I've seen it a few times I'm used to it. Still...her face when she's possesed...even still photos..disturb me!
TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE used to really bother me when I was a teen but I watched it a few months ago and it's really a pretty over-rated movie. A whole lotta nothin happens through the first half and the senseless slaughter is in the second half.
FRAILTY (Father of two young sons kills because "God tells him to") was probably the most recent movie to give me the "Ick factor".

The original "Halloween" in the theaters in October 25th 1978. My friend Steve and I snuck in underage by pretending we were going to watch another movie. The movie was awesome and scaried the cripes out of us. The best part was when all the kids at school the next day wanted to hear about our adventures. That might have been the beginnings of my coolness. [Cool] Actually, I never thought about it, but stuff like that can make a difference when you're a kid. BOO!

One more...for "right after you watch it walking home alone in the snow in the dark" : THE SHINING. My friend and I watched it on TV at a house she was babysitting at. We said "That wasnt so scary" and then proceeded to have to walk down a long country road. In the dark. In the snow. Truly terrifying.

The Excorcist just disturbs me. I can't watch it. House of 1000 Corpses disturbs me too. What's The Other about? I've heard of it but never seen it.

No more clowns and no more ventriliquist dummys anyway! (Dolls that look too "real" are spooky too. Remember that doll in CURTAINS? Ay caramba, or that clown doll in POLTERGUIEST? Yowza!)

Tryed to watch IT on TV recently and my six year old put the kabosh on that. (To a point where it got funny...becasue she thought Pennywise might be in the basement. Which is ridiculous: Pennywise is NOT in the basement. Freddy and the zombie from EVIL DEAD are!)

THE OTHER is about a good twin and a bad twin who have the power to play "The Game": meaning they can have out of body experiences and see things through the eyes of others. Of course, the bad twin does a lot of sinister things and the good twin usually gets blamed for them. You really should check it out: I know they play it on TV sometimes (Cable)...and also that the vhs and DVD are on eBay sometimes. Totally spooky and creepy.

IT and Poltergeist have continued to frighten me through adulthood because I suffer from Coulrophobia - the fear of clowns.

To me, all clowns are evil, mass murdering psychopaths. And Ronald McDonald is their leader.

I'm not brave enough to watch "Killer Klowns from Outer Space".

Micahel Meyers was dressed as a clown as a child too, in the 1st Halloween, then in part 4 the little girl is dressed like a clown, and I hate that part of the movie...where she is running around the school and Micahel Meyers is trying to get her...there is something about that one where he's trying to kill a child...that is probably the most disturbing...when children are murdered.

Has anyone ever seen Bloody Birthday??? The children are the killers in it...and that is also very scary.

I think the 80's movie that scared me when i was little was Poltergeist , the bit when the clown and the tree come alive! and the little girl in the TV, that was frecky a$$ stuff!

The film that really scared me was The Ring the US verson. it was just the girl comeing out of the TV it gave me the shivers. there just something about people going into and out of TV that frecks me out.

THE SHINING totally creeps me out 'cos of the twins. Its not really a frightening film,but creepy...definately!!
