LOS ANGELES - Could it be time to put more candles on the cake? Molly Ringwald said she's in discussions to make a sequel to "Sixteen Candles," the 1984 movie about the obstacles and embarrassments a teen girl faces on her birthday.
The film, directed by John Hughes, shot Ringwald to teen stardom, but she hasn't appeared in a major role in many years. She said she's been appearing in theater, small TV and film parts and raising a daughter, now 18 months old.
Ringwald, 37, said she had been approached repeatedly about doing a sequel, but recently read a script that she liked and wanted to star in the movie.
"I've turned it down for years. I couldn't see how it would work," she said. "Now, it seems right."
Ringwald was reunited at the MTV Movie Awards on Saturday with Anthony Michael Hall, Ally Sheedy and Paul Gleason, three of her co-stars in 1985's "The Breakfast Club," directed by John Hughes.
Judd Nelson and Emilio Estevez didn't show.
"They're in Africa with Dave Chappelle," Hall joked

That may be true but it wouldn't be as endearing as the first. I guess I just can't picture it. Especially without Jake Ryan! He doesn't act anymore!

I hope they don't cos then there will be calls for them to do a sequel for The Breakfast Club, Weird Science and Ferris Bueller eventually. They are classics on their own and we all know how "good" sequels are...

I know I really don't know how they would pull it off. Maybe they could try to do a movie with all of our favorites from the show but not make it a sequel. Like they did with Pretty Woman and The Runaway Bride.

I REALLY hope this doesn't happen. I don't think there is any point trying to make this happen. It is a unique, classic, universally appealing movie.
Heck, I wasn't a teenager until the nineties but those films still had appeal to me. Producers are mistaken if they think that they need to 'contextualize' a film in modern times in order for it to appeal today.

Devo i have to agree, but i think that they should leave ALL great movies alone. Remakes/Sequels dont tend to work (ok with a few exceptions) Hollywood should concentrate on remaking old crap movies rather than risking ruining already good films
