I always thought these three movies should be a DVD box set . It's like the ultimate 80's sports movie collection...football, wrestling and hockey? What more do you need? Anyways, which one of the three is your favorite why?
All The Right Moves is a great movie for Lea Thompson fans. Vision Quest was cool because not only did we get Matt Modine but also Michael Schoeffling (sigh). The soundtrack, which I bought today, is killer!! Finally, Youngblood is watchable thanks to Cynthia Gibb. I loved her as CeCe in Modern Girls !

I love the soundtrack to Vision Quest and the storyline of his wrestling and the vision quest is awesome but the storyline of him trying to bag the older chick I think took away from what made the movie so good.

My point is that All the right moves isn't a good football movie, it's only one game and is more about the town and the player and the coach than football.

Cindy I like your 80's movie sports pack thinking!
Of the movies you mentioned, I would have to go with "Vision Quest" as the best sports movie. I mean the soundtrack is kicktassh. Matt Modine does an outstanding job of portraying a quirky 18 year-old athlete trying to find his place in the Circle. Add in Michael Schoeffling (Jake Ryan- btw that is Cindy sighing again ) as the best friend and you have an excellent movie. I loved the final match though contrived, it still got a Valley fist pumping move as the music starts to play at the end. Did I mention the awesome Music....Journey, Berlin, Madonna and many more. "It aint the 6 minutes, it's what happens in that 6 minutes."
Second would have to be "All The Right Moves", it might not have been packed with football action, but they captured the atmosphere of the big game well and how an entire town rallies behind its sports teams. The bus ride, the tension in the locker room, the emotional swings of the game, and the best part of the movie is the fact they lost the big game.
Finally, I would place "Youngblood" third. I was never a huge hockey fan and this movie never struck a chord with me like the other two movies did. Not a bad movie, just not one I would put at the top of my list.
Has anyone ever thought about how the decisions you make when you are 18 years old can shape your life forever? You don't even realize it at the time, but choices you make then could be the most important ones you ever make...very scary ya know. Back to the movies, well sports for some people (like myself) are a part of that thinking. The big game still runs through my mind 20 years later, so I'm sure it does so many other people. All those movies all have great memories for me, cause they were all out right around the same time and right at the time when I was going to the movies as a teenager.
I saw Youngblood at the movies with my foreign exchange student at a matinee with a whole group of us, the memory of the ride to the movies and hanging with my friends is better than the movie, I just bought it on DVD and Rob Lowe is so cute in that movie, it is hard to pay attention to the storyline-
I love the soundtrack to Vision Quest, but I never really got in to the storyline either.
My favorite would probably be All the Right Moves, I mean it takes place in PA and they had my school colors, so it hit close to home for me.
Plus, there is that "scene" with Tom Cruise...you know the one, where if you hit the pause button- that makes it totally worth being #1

Well Youngblood is the one that I have seen the least. I really liked both Vision Quest --killer soundtrack--and All the Right Moves.
They all had outstanding casts and storylines, I wish we could see more stuff like this in today's films. Every teen flick centers around technology and cell phones and fantasy. I wish we could just get back to good storylines and actual acting!!

Me too Jess! That's what I am talking about. Everything now has to revolved around the internet and your cell phone, if you take that stuff away from a teenager today, they can't even function, and that's the fact.
To me All the Right Moves captured what it was like as a teenager...you could have taken a video camera to my school, and got almost the exact movie, and that is what I liked, is even though most of those kids came from a town where there wasn't any money, all Tom Cruise wanted was to go to college and get out and make something out of himself, he had ambition, and I liked that he was a "nice guy". His friend got in to some trouble. But over all those were the kind of people I related to and grew up with, and were the majority.

Oh ISIS I miss those days when a video camera was like the most high tech thing there was. For movies it is amazing that so many of them today don't focus any acting technique. Everything is Computer Animated. I wish that I could see a film that focused on acting and storylines more than anything else.
