I finally watched it last night, it was the first time I ever saw it.
The beginning of the tape was cut off, but it started at his high school graduation, so I figured I didn't miss much.
I actually liked this movie alot. I think it changed how I felt about John Cusak, I use to think he was ok, but not spectacular as an actor. But, in this movie he was cool. He seemed like such a "normal" guy.
I just liked how it was made.
I love the scene where he's trying to talk to her while she is swimming and he just falls in the pool, and she never says a word, and just keeps swimming around him.
And then I love when he warns her not to get in the truck with that guy, and she gets attacked, and he pops up in the back of the truck, and jumps up front, and acts crazy, that was funny.
It was such a great movie, because it really wasn't about anything...it was just like taking a group of people and watching their life at that moment, and the ride they took, and what happened along the way-is stuff that can happen to anybody.
I love how the couple that started out with them, on the ride-(the ones that sang show tunes)- how they thought the 2 of them where crazy, and they finally had enough of them, and dumped them out along the road.
I am glad I saw it, it had a happy ending. I loved the music in it. It had a great feeling to it, and that's exactly what I look for in a movie, so I definately recommend watching it.
I liked it better than Say Anything.
In fact it is now my favorite role I have seen John Cusak in.

I missed a good lot of the beginning of this one, but I liked it. It was a great romance, and I love road trip type movies (Well, good ones anyway.).

not necessarily (sp)...it's about a guy who travels a distance to meet a "hottie" for some quick action (hence the title, THE SURE THING)..but along with way he hitches a ride with a straight-laced, uptight chick who is on her way to visit her boyfriend (i believe), and guess what happends.....

All that aside, this is a pretty entertaining movie. I'm not sure about this, but isn't the girl who plays "The Thing" Nicolette Sheridan?

Isis!!! Even though I know you're not a big Cusack-fan.. I can't believe you never saw this movie until now. Anyway, I'm glad you liked it, as it is one of my favorite movies as well. It's just filled with great scenes from beginning till end. Gotta love it.

But the thing that was so real for me, was the sleeping in the bed together....I had a friend who was just like John Cusak in that movie..personality wise. And he and I use to do some of the craziest stuff together.
He was always at my mom's house on the weekends, and he came and visited me when I moved all over, and he was always just trying to jump in the bed with me-not sexually (sometimes yeah-but mostly goofing).
I remember once he stayed at my mom's, and I was home for the weekend, and he was staying over night, cause him and another guy were driving me back to my friends the next morning for us to drive back to Virginia.
Well, he had been drinking, and my mom had 3 bedrooms, and she had put him in her room, cause he was so tall, his feet would have hung out of a twin bed, and I remember having to go in there to get my pajamas, and my mom said "you stay away from there"...as if?? But, he grabbed my arm, and said "don't leave me....because he felt so awful...and he's like..I promise I won't try anything-even though he's laying there in nothing but his underwear but, he said...just don't leave, so I stayed there, and crawled in on the other side like nothing and I woke up, and his arm was drapped all across me, just like the scene in The Sure Thing, and so when I saw that movie, it cracked me up. Because we were such great friends, and it was so cool to hang out with a guy like that, and have such a fun friendship.
I thought about how so many things we did were so much fun, and how this guy when he came to meet my roommates in Virginia, the day after he meet them, he asked me in the morning what would my room mate do, if he went in her room, and crawled in bed with her, would she freak, and I said...go do it, and she knocked him on the floor..It was so hilarious.
I just thought it was cute, cause I related to it so much, infact that movie is such a total picture of what life was like for me in the 80's, and that's what I really like about it.
I am going to have to get the DVD now.

I would say being stranded in the middle of nowhere with no food and water or a place to stay is definately an emergency.
