Seeing the new thriller White Noise reminded me how much I miss 80's horror movies. This movie was a letdown considering the hype it had been getting. It is hard to make a scary PG-13 rated horror movie. I think the movie woulda been better had they filmed it with it getting an R rating in mind. The subject matter of the movie was scary, but the movie in itself wasn't. I feel sorry for current horror fans who did not have the chance to grow up in the 80's. I still remember as a 12 year old sneaking into horror movies with my friends, and catching the midnite screenings later on in my early teens. Maybe I am just biased, but no one will ever be able to create another Jason, Freddy, Michael Myers, or Leatherface. I guess I am trying to say that 80's horror ruled man!

Not that I'm a HUGE horror fan (Depends on the movie.), but I say they bring back rubber suits and ludicrous plotlines.
I mean, it doesn't even have to make sense. Go wild.
So here's my idea:
A few confused kids decide to create a cult. Unfortunately, in order to be taken seriously, they need someone BIG to be their leader. So Timmy, who happens to be a genius, creates a monster out of tin cans and broccoli.
Canoli is born! He comes to life and turns on his creator, and because an alien spaceship happened to land at Timmy's farm exactly the night he was created, it gave off radioactive waves and gave Canoli superpowers and a need to destroy! (Timmy's parents were out of town.)
Canoli heads out into the cornfield on the farm and decides that corn will be the perfect weapon. He heads into town and kills innocent people with various vegetables and cooking items.
Will Canoli get away with his evil plan? They try to kill him, but it's no use! He's invincible--He can't be hurt!
But wait! The only person that can hurt him is Timmy himself, who picked up the same powers he had when the spaceship landed at his farm (sans the need to destroy)!
It seems Canoli is destroyed-- But what's this? Dun dun duuun! He's melded with PHONE BOOTH! Stay tuned for the sequels.

HERE is a peice i wrote a couple years back Friday the 13th.....
The Friday the 13th series (along with the Halloween series) is one of the quintessential foundations for the modern horror genre as we know and love it today!! For the first time in movie history, fornicating, binge drinking adolescents were systematically slaughtered in creative and innovative manners as they repeatedly made the mistake of vacationing at the camp of woe that was Camp Crystal Lake!!! More so than the Halloween series, the Friday series set the standard and formula for a successful bad movie with its use of down right funny eliminations of stereotypical teens as they are repeatedly caught in vulnerable and awkward situations that one would prefer not to be found dead in. Harpoonings while taking a dump, being run through with a spear while pounding on your honey, having a giant spear thrust through you while doing a handstand, and having a party horn thrust through your eye with an acompanying HONK!!! are just a few of the countless ways Jason exacts his revenge on the teenage population while humbling them at the same time. You're the big football star on campus, eh? Well, you don't look too hot with that fireplace poker sticking out of your skull!!! The Friday movies all run along the same plotline: Jason Vorhees, who supposedly drowned as a child due to the negligence of teenage camp counselors, exacts his revenge on the never dwindling pool of teenage flesh that repeatedly shows up at Camp Crystal Lake for one reason or anouther. Each film has a different twist to this storyline to justify its existence as a sequel but they all adhere and follow this for the most part. If you have not seen this series, then order a pizza and sit your monkey *** down and watch some of the funniest horror films ever created. Seriously folks, if you haven't seen at least more than half, then you really cannot enjoy the other films on my regular review list as you will not have this ESSENTIAL base to build off of. The Friday series rubs away all serious undertones you may harbor in watching a horror film and breaks you down until you can laugh without shame at a teenager in a wheelchair being hit with a flying machete and rolling ingloriously down the steps to a bone jarring crash at the bottom!!! The ability to laugh at others misfortune is, after all, what it is all about and vital to be able to enjoy these films on that were never meant to be taken seriously (If they were that makes them even funnier!!) WATCH THESE FIRST TO PREPARE YOURSELF MENTALLY FOR THE PROPER ENJOYMENT OF THE BAD MOVIE!!!

"I Miss Them Too"............................ MotleyRulz
Are'nt Horror Movies From The '80s Like The Best ? I Know A Lot Of People May Strongly Disagree With What I'm About To Say... But I Have To Say, The '80s Was The Best Decade For Horror Movie So Far. I Mean With All The Computer Animation They Use In Movies Today, Lot's Of People Leave The Theater, And Are disappointed In The Movie They Just Spent Almost 10 Dollars To See. And Most Of Crappiest Movies Be The Horror Movies, All Hollywood Cares About Is The Huge Special Effects They Put Into the Movie, Not The Scare Factor. There Were Some Really Classic Horror Movie Villains Started In The '80s Like: Jason Vorhees/Freddy Kruger/Pinhead/(Michael Myers)...I know the first Halloween was in the late 70's, But Halloween II was in the '80s, And since the first Halloween was so close to the end of the '70s. Michael Myers really was big in the '80s. Even the '70s had some great Horror classics. The '90s was ok but at the moment i can't think of any Horror Movie villain, that was as big of a name as Jason & Freddy was in the '80s. When i go out to rent or buy horror movies, i usually buy horror movies from the '80s. Is'nt it long over due for a new Horror movie legend? A new slasher killer.

I love horror movies too, and I agree with CT. Every so called scary movie they put out now, is just stupid, and the effects make it look so fake, and do the reverse of what a movie should do. I have listed alot of my favorite horror movies on here before, but seeing that Valentine's Day is the next holiday coming up (aside from my personal favorite -Groundhog Day)...I love the movie My Bloody Valentine. I always thought they could take that movie and develop it in to a franchise of movies, cause Axel was even a great name for a serial killer.
I have never seen Mother's Day yet, but it is one I have been looking for.
Silent Scream is a great horror movie.
I just saw the DVD cover for Happy Birthday to Me, and I don't get it either who the girl is on the cover.
I saw that He Knows Your Alone just was released on DVD too-that movie is one of my favorites. It took me forever to get a VHS copy of it.
Some others I like are:
April Fool's Day Bloody Birthday Blood Song The Entity Grotesque
I love all the camp movies, like Friday the 13th and Cheerleader Camp, anything that takes place at camp is awesome.
Does anyone else love the movie Piranha?? I love it because it is scary, they make it have a semi-believable plot, the effects are awesome, it takes place at camp, I like the actors in it, especially Heather Menzies, and it has alot of actors who were in Gremlins in it. They left it wide open for many sequels, but the only one they did was Piranha II-The Spawning-and it stunk.
It is amazing to me how many horror movies they actually put out in the 80's.
That is what is the most awesome thing about the 80's, is even the low budget B-movies were being turned out left and right, and movies were being made in every category and they were all great.
Now, they can't even come up with 1 super great movie for the entire year. Even if I can make it through a movie that was made in the past few years and don't shut it off, it is never a movie that I could sit there and watch over and over and over again, like I can 80's stuff.
And I still feel the same way, because I have just been watching alot of 80's movies in the past few years that I had never seen in the 80's, and I love them and can't get enough of them.
The one thing I see on here that most people do tend to agree on, is everyone is sick of them remaking movies, or making bad sequels, so how come the movie industry has not caught on to that yet, and realized what they need to do, is go back, and watch the 80's stuff and do it like it was done then.

mamamia- I love MST3K! I only wish it was still airing so I could see more of it. I have a DVD of "The Essentials" for now, anyway.
I wasn't kidding when I said they should bring back the old school special effects and ludicrous plotlines. When they use big budget special effects, by trying to make it more realistic, they make it seem less real. Rubber masks look like something the actor can feel and touch--Whereas with CGI, the actor is more or less standing in front of a stick with a tennis ball at the end of it.
I mean, this applies with anything, not just horror movies.
Plus ridiculous plotlines make a movie fun. I mean, I'm all for serious moments (I mean, if your friends are getting killed, you might not be cranking out the jokes just then, y'know?), but I like having fun watching a movie, even if it can be scary at times.
When you think about it, ALL of the horror movie icons have come about over ridiculous premises. They can be scary, but you don't have to take it so seriously.
When all else fails, you can always send the villain into space. But don't take my word for it--I've never sat through a horror series long enough to get to any space ones. Sorry, folks, Jason and Freddy and all them--Not really my cup of tea in the long run. Give me Evil Dead over those any day!

I miss the 80s horror stuff also. I really did like the remake of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, it was very scary. I wish that filmmakers would go back to the days of actual blood and guts versus all of the computer generation stuff. Some of that stuff just seems so fake and if you could get back to some of the tricks from Halloween and Friday the 13th, even some of the earlier Nightmare on Elm Street stuff.
I didn't know about the Halloween remake, I think that they are going to make like 33 of those films. As long as they don't go overboard, which they always seem to.

I liked the remake of the Texas Chainsaw Massacre as well jlp. I thought it was scarier than the original. But all this computer animated junk doesn't even look real. FX folks have to be out of work due to the sheer lack of non-computer animated gore. It wasn't horror, but to me the best example of computer animated effects gone bad was the 2003 version of the Hulk. That was utterly pathetic, and an insult to everyone on the old show. Just my two scents though...

You are so right about 80 Horror being the best. I am a big fan of all Horror. The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly of them all. If you have not seen Shawn of the dead yet then you need too. It is not scary Horror but very funny. Also do not waist your money on the Grudge get a copy from some poor soul who will probably buy it when it comes out.

I really liked the HOUSE movies and got them in a nice DVD box set for less then 20 pounds. I do agree that the 80s made some great horror films...stuff like Creepshow, nightmare on elm street and a few others will always be favorites of mine.
I recently watched a movie called FRANKENFIN...anyone seen it??? I thought it was going to give me an 80s feel but it was pretty bad.

hi Witchboard was one of my favourite horrors from the 80's I was about 12 when I saw it and it scared the pants off me, needless to say I have never done a Ouija board. Loved April Fools Day too isis I watched it with my Gran years ago. All those slasher movies were great but the sequels killed them, now if you mention Halloween,Nightmare on Elm St etc people just groan as they only remember the latest one.

WOOHOO! I was hoping that someone would mention Witchboard. Tawny Kitaen was in her prime!! But I think that Rhodes would agree that we really need Tom Santini back in the movies. He was the main guy in the 80's responsible for making a lot of the gory effects that we have in our heads. If you are curious who has is, he was the mortal biker that got vamped in the bar in 'Dusk Till Dawn'. He is missed! I have to say also that 'Scream' was the closest thing to the 80's films that has been made. It had the inevitable guy in the memorable mask, killing teens and a decent storyline. Although I haven't seen it, I hear that 'Saw' tried it but was VERY unsuccessful
