It's by a British band called 10cc. The song is called "The Things We Do For Love", from 1977.
Two of the members are Kevin Godley and Lol Creme, who later went on their own (as Godley & Creme) during the 80's with "Cry", and directed music videos (including The Police's "Every Breath You Take").
Here are the lyrics:
THE THINGS WE DO FOR LOVE 10 CC
Too many broken hearts have fallen in the river Too many lonely souls have drifted out to sea You lay your bets and then you pay the price The things we do for love The things we do for love
Communication is the problem to the answer You've got her number and your hand is on the phone The weather's turned and all the lines are down The things we do for love, the things we do for love
Like walking in the rain and the snow When there's nowhere to go When you're feeling like a part of you is dying And you're looking for the answer in her eyes You think you're gonna break up Then she says she wants to make up Ooh you made me love you Ooh you've gone away Ooh you had me crawling on the floor
A compromise would surely help the situation Agree to disagree but disagree to part When after all it's just a compromise Of the things we do for love The things we do for love The things we do for love

It's one of those songs your parents get up and dance to all lovey dovey at family get togethers, then argue about who was the best dancer.

So, what have been some of the Things you have done for love??? Anybody, Anybody???
My senior year (1986), there was a guy I had a crush on, and everyone knew it in the whole school, and everytime I'd see him in the hall I would be walking with some other guy that was a friend of mine, and the guy I had a crush on would always be coming around the corner right as we were walking to study hall-we timed it that way on purpose, and I always wanted to say hi, cause he would say hi to me, but I would spaz out, and get tongue tied, and I am sure he thought I was insane, I remember my friend pushing me in front of him and I dropped all my books, and my friend took off and left me there and the guy I liked stopped to help me pick my stuff up, I could have died-I know he thought the guy I was with was my boyfriend, but he wasn't...I walked in to studyhall, and everyone bust out laughing cause everyone had watched what had happened.
It was a big deal at school, to have a dance called the MORP (prom backwards) where the girl asked the guy, and everyone kept telling me to ask this guy, and I was getting the nerve up to do it, but then 2 of my friends come running down the hall and said you won't believe who just asked him to the dance, it was my cousin, and she did it on purpose, and everyone said: "you dummy, you should have asked him". So, my cousin's ex boyfriend was one of my best friend's, so when I told him what she did, he was out of high school, but he said, I am taking you to the dance, and he did, and it was like out of a movie, it was so funny...cause my cousin was so jealous, and the guy I liked was so miserable being there with her, and I ended up having a great time. That was so much fun.
Those are the funniest times in school, when you have a crush on someone, and you sort of want it to be a secret, but you want them to know too.
I did get over being shy though...I had graduated high school, and I saw this same guy walking up the side walk(that I had the crush on and could barely talk to), in front of my house, and I was driving down the street to go over to my Aunt's, he waved at me, and I did a U-turn in the middle of the street, I threw my boyfriend's class ring in the back seat, and I pulled over and asked if he wanted a ride. And he said, heck yeah, but I had a boyfriend then..so that was that, but I never forgot giving him that ride though!

I also know what the source of the meaning behind the group's name, but I can't blame him for not mentioning it on this board. Let's just say that the group's name has sexual connotations, and I won't go any further.
And you would probably be disgusted by it, and launch into a tirade about it! So, I'll just leave it at that.

10cc went from "The Things We Do For Love" to "I'm Not In Love" which was one of my perennial juke box choices when I worked the snack bar at my uncle's bowling alley back in the day.
So is there anywhere one can find out what 10cc means now that you put it out there?

For all curious just go to google and type in 10cc and you should be able to find your answer.
I knew the answer without having to go to google just giving those who don't know an idea on how they can find the answer.

I found a 45 record of it, so thanks again for helping me out with the name of the group, because there is a girl who has a song out with the same name, so there was more than one version.

I can't believe it, but I got this song on Ebay for $1.55 with the shipping!! Now who can beat that?? I remember when 45 records cost more than that in the store.
Doesn't anyone else miss buying "singles" of songs???
You can't tell me that it wouldn't be cool, to still be able to buy just the one song you like, and not have to spend the money on a whole CD.
I loved buying 45 records, cause as a teenager, they were affordable, they were fun, and it was cool to go shopping , and buy up a bunch of the newest top sellers.
I remember buying 45's at G.C. Murphy's, it was in our downtown- it was a big department store- they had one of everything. We hung out there playing Pac-Man, buying candy and 45 records, yippee, those were the days.

I thought this was a topic about the crazy things people do for love, like this one thing i did for the love of a women. We did'nt go to the same high school,so that made it hard for us to see each other, and the fact i was'nt from the nice part of town that she lived in,did'nt help our chances of being together. But she did'nt care about that sort of thing ya know? she was different, her parents were different, from other parents. Her friends were.......well let's just say they were'nt to happy to see us together, since she had just broke up with her super popular & hunky boyfriend. I mean he was voted the prom king at there high school. We went out on a few dates, and just as we were starting to become a couple, her friends had convinced her to get back together with her ex-boyfriend. And she did'nt even call to tell me it was over,i had to find out when i went to pick her up for a date. She did'nt let me in she cracked the door a little, and laid the news on me. "I Can't See You Anymore" it's over alright. Of course i was hurt and i could'nt live with out her,so i went to a nightclub were they knew i was underage, but i was cool with the bouncers,so they would let me inside. I had got drunk out in the parking lot before i went inside the nightclub. The club was dead and i was drunk as a skunk, that's when i ran into my best bud Bailey. He knew the reason why i was bummed out,so he gave me a littie advice.....He said "If you want this chick so bad, then do something about it" go for the wild and crazy gusto. "That romantic sh*t" . So i did,i worked at all the hang-outs that she goes to everyday, like the resturant and the movie theater. And get this...I even went as far as sleeping out on her front lawn so that i could catch her going to school Oh wait a minute that was'nt me that's what happen to Randy in Valley Girl
OOPS MY BAD..........................................................
