Okay, so we've all seen some bad sequels or live action remakes of an old cartoon . . . But, y'know, Hollywood doesn't have so low of standards that we can't think of things that just couldn't work.

So, what 80's movies do you think would be terrible to make a sequel to (think something that's really odd to think about continuing), or what cartoon do you think would be pretty weird seeing in live action? What would the new movie be about (I mean, terrible ideas here, but it's funny to see what people can come up with.)?

Ferris Bueller's Next Day Off.

Ferris is working for a stuffy stock trading firm, and decides to ditch for the day, despite being in line for an important promotion. And who is his main competition for the promotion? Why, it's Ed Rooney, who was fired from the school when he accidently exposed himself to Grace the secretary during an ill-fated attempt to blackmail Ferris into admitting his truant ways on graduation day.
Meanwhile, Cameron has inherited his father's business and relies on Sloane to ensure that his Japanese investors don't pull out of the "big project".
Can Ferris help Cameron save the business?
Will Ed Rooney get the promotion and fire Ferris?
What happened to Jeannie's nose?
All will be revealed this summer in "Ferris Bueller's Next Day Off"

I've got a feeling that next year's live action Transformers movie is gonna suck big time.

I think the live action Fat Albert movie looks hideous.

I am, however, looking forward to the King Kong remake, the War Of The Worlds remake and the Charlie & The Chocolate Factory remake.

When I first heard about the Bewitched remake I cringed, but after seeing the casting choices of Will Farrel and Hottie Nicole Kidman...I think I might just go see that one.

And the movie Flight Of The Phoenix has been remade. I think I'll stick to the original Jimmy Stewart version which was more character driven.

Remakes, remakes, remakes!!!!

There's a live action Transformers remake coming out? Oy!

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory seems really good, though-- but maybe that's because the song is so catchy in the teaser!

Remakes seem to be all over the place! I might catch that Bewitched one, though--Will Ferrell rocks. Elf and Anchorman are great comedies.

I'll bet you fifty bucks they come out with an I Dream of Jeannie movie sometime in the near future. [Wink]

Here's a bad one:

Earth Girls Are Easier

Following the events of the first movie, Valerie is having trouble fitting in with the hairy people of Mac's home planet. It's not quite as easy as losing some hair this time around.

Meanwhile, on Earth, Candy realizes that Valerie didn't get her margaritas! She discovers that Wiploc had stayed behind to be with her (Zeebo stays for continuation purposes), and together they build a spaceship out of toilet paper rolls and various hair products. The three of them take off to find Valerie in space.

Oh no! Ted stowed away in the spaceship, and holds Candy, Zeebo, and Wiploc hostage! For comedy purposes, Bambi is his evil space warlord cat. He finds out how to contact Valerie and threatens to shoot her friends into space if she doesn't marry him (for reasons STILL unknown).

Will Valerie save her friends AND still get margaritas? Only time will tell.

Hey Lupa....there actually is an I Dream Of Jeanie in the works. I read rumors that Britney Spears might play Jeanie. The script is being written now.

Aha! I knew it!

[Frown] It's sad that you can predict most anything classic that's being remade. I hope Britney Spears doesn't land the lead--Look, she can do the singing and dancing thing, but using her sex appeal to promote a movie is a bit overboard.

Stitch- The only thing I know about the Charlie and the Chocolate factory remake is that it's going to be more closely based on the book and that the song in the teaser has been stuck in my head since I saw it. I hope it's a musical, too--Tim Burton could pull it off.

SSSHHH!!! Not so loud! Don't give 'em any ideas!
[Big Grin]

Personally, I want to see Courtney Love get the role! [Wink]

I can see it now: Britney Spears makes her own rendition of "Genie in a Bottle." Her pants are so low they barely stay on. Back-up dancers randomly appear in scenes just in case.

willy wonka was classified as a fantasy/musical. as far as i know, charlie and the chocolate factory will be along those lines-with dan the man elfman providing the music. (including the song played during the teaser trailer.) lupa is correct, charlie.. is based more on the book. i read that the 70s version was real big on the promotion of the chocolate wonka bar.

speaking of live-action flicks, i read a while back that the chipmunks cartoon was going to be made into a live-action movie sometime. might not even be true, but i can't fathom that one for the life of me.

BWAHA! I'd say they could never pull off the Chipmunks thing, but they made Rocky and Bullwinkle.

Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Live Action Musical Extravaganza (LAME)

Alvin and his brothers desperately try to discover who their real father is--it became painfully obvious that they were adopted. Along the way, they meet Scooby Doo and the Globe Trotters, which leads to musical numbers being sung by Scooby Doo and the gang. After the executives realize the ratings are dropping, they throw in Britney Spears in her I Dream of Jeannie outfit.

They later find out their real father was Splinter, who got lonely raising the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. They all eat pizza together.

"KALABUNGA!" they shout in unison.

Kalabunga indeed.

Part of Ronnie's post:

That is correct. The original "Willy Wonka" 1971 movie with Gene Wilder was mostly financed by the Quaker Oats company!

I enjoyed the movie, but if you read the book, the story is MUCH darker than the movie. And Roald Dahl, the author of the story, HATED the "Willy Wonka" movie. He feels the new version will be more closer to the spirit of his book.
