well sort of. A cute new girl moves into the neighborhood and the "boy-next-door" who is a genius and has a "pet" robot named BiBi becomes her friend. It soon becomes obvious the girl is being beated (and maybe even molested) by her father. One day the father beats her,she falls down a flight of stairs and dies. The father gets off scot-free cuz he says she tripped over stuff she had left on the stairs. The boy breaks into the morgue, steals her body and using the leftover pieces of BiBi(who I believe got destroyed by punk kids) and makes her "alive again" in a BRIDE OF FRANKENSTEIN sort of way...only now she has superhuman strength and when someone ****es her off she can go at it with a vengenece. (See Ann Ramsey get decapitated with a basketball in a scene that shoulda won someobody an Oscar!) I like this movie...not particularly SCARY but a good story anyway with likable leads as the teenagers.

I happened to switch channels late one night as the opening credits to this movie were just ending. The words "Directed by Wes Craven" grabbed my immediate interest, and I guess I was just happy to stumble across 'Deadly Friend' as a mistake.
Although I fell asleep before the end (well, it was 4am!) I know I enjoyed the movie from what I saw. I was hoping to grab it on DVD soon after, but I found out it hadn't surfaced yet both here or stateside. The reviews on IMDb were not too good either, but hey... I love the Police Academy movies (except 7) so I kinda expected it.
From what I can remember, I liked Deadly Friend mostly because of the cast.... having Kristy Swanson and Anne Ramsay in the same movie was great. I also thought 'BB' was cool, and I liked the concept of the idea. However, as I said before, I have no idea how it turned out in the end.... so as far as I know, it could more than well have fell flat on its face!
It was a good night for movies though... I just so happened to see 'Lucas,' 'Fast Times,' and half of 'Deadly Friend' for the first time! I would like to see the whole movie next time its on though!

And it starred Matthew Laborteaux, from Little House on the Prairie and Whiz Kids. He is like, so totally 80's.

Yeah it wasn't too bad. I watched it with someone who made the point, without the gore it might've been a better story, or at least better accepted by critics and fans. Head-bashing with a basketball (though a cool effect) wasn't really neccessary. No dvd in any region unless you get a bootleg. Warner Bros. owns it so until they stop dragging their feet it won't get released.
And Kristy Swanson....YUM
