I was just wondering if any of you had ever thought of an 80s star that really made a lot of good choices in their career during the 80s. I would have to say that Tom Cruise is probablly the first one that comes to mind. Then maybe Chevy Chase.
What I am looking for is roles that defined these actors and made people fall in love with them. Other actors that made good choices would have to be Molly Ringwald, Burt Reynolds, and Sylvester Stallone.
What do you think? Who had really smart career choices in the 80s. You don't even have to limit it to movies. You can expand into music or politics.

Michael J. Fox certainly made good choices on both the small and large screen. I suppose you could also say David Hasselhoff did the same on just the small screen (although NBC didn't make a good choice in letting the rights to Baywatch go after one season). On the big screen, Matthew Broderick made numerous good choices that we all enjoy. And special credit goes to Leslie Nielsen for being able to effectively restart his career in an entertaining, albeit slightly unconventional, manner.

I reckon Sarah Jessica Parker has done pretty well for herself.

There's Harrison Ford:

I'd say he had made some pretty good choices (at least money-wise) for his film roles!
I'm not a big fan of Eddie Murphy, but he had a pretty lucrative run of movie roles in the 80's. He is still considered an A-list star today, even though his films are quite different (in fact, some of his 90's and 2k movies stink!) in comparison from the ones he made during the 80's.
Tom Hanks is another star who became big in the 80's, mostly through his comedy roles. Today, he is still a big star, though he does serious dramatic stuff now.

Yeah Eddie Murphy, I forgot about him. He had some big hits with some pretty raunchy stuff.
Nowadays he is doing all of these family kinds of films. I guess your life changes when you have 5 kids.
