I was just wondering what your best 80s memory is.. It doesn't have to be about movies or music, just something that makes you smile.
I have a few myself. I remember my father being healthy and taking me to see Goonies and tons of other 80s flicks. We used to go to this really old theatre that had a red carpet. It was fancy and everything was gold trimmed. They eventually closed it down and built a more modern theater. I'll never forgive them for that. I saw Indiana Jones and Return of the Jedi there.
I also remember my best friend and I playing in her treehouse everyday and listening to the radio. There was a 12 year old boy we had a crush on and every time he walked by we sang "Let's hear it for the boy". Ahhhh those were the days.
What memories do you cherish?

I was just recently divorced and my mother had come to stay with me for a while. After she had left, one day I was sitting in my room and feeling sorry for myself, and my kids came in wondering what Mom was doing. My oldest son turned on my record player and said.."teach me how to dance mom" It was 1988 and he was 9 years old. So I played Together Forever by Rick Astley and tried to teach him how to dance, then my other two kids started dancing too, it was great, the two younger ones were 6 and 4. Needless to say I forgot I was a single newly divorced mother of 3 and ended up having a great time.
Now everytime I hear that song, I think of that day. Funny how some memories stay with you...

Wow Rose, that's a powerful memory! It sounds pretty wonderful though. Isn't it funny how certin songs, smells or tastes can trigger a memory and the same feeling you felt as it really happened? Do you know what I mean?

Thanks Ali. You would be surprised what you can do when you put your mind to it.
On a different note. I remember seeing risky business and thinking.."omg, Tom Cruise wears tidy whities?" I had never seen it in the movie theaters and caught it on cable years after the fact. That was definitely a classic movie.

I remember me and my stepbrother were meant to be going to watch GhostBusters with a friend of my mum. He rang up about an hr before he was supposed to be at the house to say his car was broken and we wouldn`t be able to go.
I remember crying and being really down, my mum then arranged for us to go on a bus and he would pick us up from the station....I was soooooooooo happy and ended up loving the film...I think I saw it another 10 times afterwards.
Actually I have lots of good memories!!

I remember my going to a water park with my oldest sister and her friends. I was the pipsqueak little brother, so I really appreciated her letting me go. Anyways, it was just like the scene out of The Karate Kid. In fact, it was the summer of 1984, so it was quite authentic. Classic arcade games, waterslides, people wearing Vans and muscle Ts and plenty of Van Halen on the radio. Whenever I think of her, that memory always pops into my head.

One of my most powerful memories of the 80s was in the summer of '89. I had been attending a German school in Tokyo, and that summer my family was going to leave Tokyo and move to Germany (where I had never lived before). Being a foreign school in Japan, there was a huge fluctuation rate and being forced to say goodbye to friends was something that was very much dreaded and it happened way too often. So on the very last night before we left Japan, some friends and me broke into our school (a friend had duplicated keys), and spent the whole night together in our old classroom, drinking and eating, listening to music and playing all those silly games we used to play in past years (like truth or dare etc ) and dreaming about someday all seeing each other again somewhere...
I still feel like crying whenever I think of that night. To this day, I still have a huge problem with farewells and also in movies, those are always the scenes that make me cry.

Just had a flashback! Went to this girls birthday party. She was very pretty and cool. I was shy with a capital S, she took the initiative and asked me to dance when Wham's Careless Whisper was on, it was the first time I danced with a girl whuch was cool. Evertime I hear that song i think of that. I think we also watched Splash at her party.
