My parents just decided to completely redecorate my old room, so I had to move all my old stuff out and came across a box with some of the very first casette tapes I bought: Thriller, Ghostbusters soundtrack etc. The first CDs I ever bought were the TopGun soundtrack and Exposure by Exposé.
How about you? What were the very first albums you ever bought?

The very first album I ever bought (as opposed to 45's) - was the LP of "Mad Love" by Linda Rondstadt - which came out in 1980! I was 15 at the time!

OMG..the first album I ever bought was Ben by Michael Jackson, in 1973, I was 13 years old and absolutely thrilled out of my skull. The first album I bought in the 80's? you know, I think it was a disco album by Chic. I dont even think I bought it, my husband at the time did. I didnt buy alot of music then, I usually listened to the radio and then taped hours of top 40's off of it. I have bought more music in the last 10 years than I have bought in my entire life..lol My latest addition to my musical collection was Wierd Al's Polka Party.

The first 45 records I ever bought were The Tide is High-Blondie, Pilot of the Airwaves, and I love a Rainy Night-Eddie Rabbit, Angel of the Morning-Juice Newton, Physical-Olivia Newton John. I think one of the first albums I ever bought was Fleetwood Mac's -Rumors. Then Stevie Nicks-Bella Donna. I remember in 1980- there were 4 albums out, and for Christmas I got 2- and my brother got the other 2. They were a bunch of different hits on 1 album, Soundwaves, and Rock 80- then Hitline-had 2 albums in it, and then I got Abba's greatest hits. Other of my first 45's were Joan Jett's I love Rock and Roll, John Cougar's-Hurts So Good, and Donnie Iris-Love is like a Rock. I also loved my mom's Crystal Gayle albums-I still like her music.

As for albums them selves I missed the boat on using vinyl (but now I have about 200)But the first tape I ever bought with my own money was the debut album of The New Kids On The Block. He I was young and didn't know what good music was yet... But I also remember when my parents just bought our first CD player and the CD's we first purchased for it were Prince's "1999", Genesis's "Invisible Touch", and Tears For Fears "Songs from the Big Chair". My dad let me have all of his CD's a few years ago and I still listen to them all of the time! Gotta love the orginal 80's CD's did anyone else notice that they are much shorter than the CD's we have now.

I cant recall if it was Elton Johns Greatest Hits on vinyl or ELOs Out Of The Blue on 8 Track. It was definately one of those 2 but I cant recall which was the 1st.

The biggest reason for shorter length CDs back then... Vinyl. You could only fit 8 - 12 songs on an album. Hence when they were transferred to CD those Cds seem awful short by comparison to todays. Now Ill start the arguement about which is worse a Cd with 2 good songs and 7-10 listenable ones or one with 1 or 2 good songs and 15 - 20 crap ones.

Yes, Def Leppard were the band of choice among guys and girls in high school in my day. I think my first cassettes were Bryan Adams Reckless and Corey Hart's Boy in the Box. 2 Canadian classics. Sometimes I will put those on again, wanna spike my hair and play loud guitar. Actually I do that anyway.

The first album I bought was The Go Go's Beauty and the Beat. I still listen to that to this day! As for the first tapes I bought with my allowance (hahaha), they were Madonna "Like A Virgin" and Cyndi Lauper "She's So Unusual." I played those till they were warped! However, deathbystereo80, I do recall buying Expose "Exposure" on vinyl for some odd reason. Thanks for helping me remember that one . They were actually the first concert I went to as well. I was in sixth grade and I remember wearing my new white and green Benetton rugby shirt...haha. I thought I was cool... .

Well it wasn't one that I bought but it was given to me by a boy that I liked in my neighborhood. "Thriller", at the time I was really stupid because I remember standing in the middle of the street and pulling all of the tape out of the cassette and running down the street. Weird Huh, I was only eleven I think.
