I saw this movie for the first time last night and I was surprisingly impressed. What a great story. It had heart. Richard Mulligan (I think that's his name) was great as was the rest of the cast. This should be on DVD. The music was so good too!

Aww, Cindy you shoulda told me. I LOVE watching a favorite with somebody who hasn't seen it yet .
But yes, a very underrated teen flick. Got lost among the zillions in 1985, like BTTF, Better Off Dead, Breakfast Club, Weird Science, and others.
Yeah, the soundtrack was great with a lot of no-name stuff. "Out on the Edge" to end the movie is great.
Mulligan was a terrific actor, he died last year sadly.
Bobby (Lewis Smith) teaches acting in Los Angeles;
Gedrick (Lenny) is a good journeyman actor;
of course Kaczmerek is the mother on Malcolm and the Middle.

I have not yet seen this movie, but I will agree that Richard Mulligan was a great comedy character actor. In addition to this film, he was in also the TV series "Soap", "Empty Nest", and made lots of other movie roles. IMHO, most notable of which was his General George Custer in "Little Big Man" (1970).
Mulligan died of colon cancer in September 2000.
One saucy bit of trivia involving Mulligan: He was once married to an 80's porn starlet named Serina Robinson (stage names: Penny Morgan and Rachel Ryan). Mulligan had no idea what she did for a living. I remember reading some of the tabloids which she claimed he was often drunk and beat her. Mulligan denied the accusation and tried to sue her. The marriage ended only after ten months.

Man, "The Heavenly Kid" is my favorite movie ever.
Ive been tring to find the soundtrack, or even individual songs from the movie for a while now with no luck.
I know that movie like the back of my hand. if anyone knows how to get the soundtrack or even just individual songs, please get a hold of me.
But, the heavenly kid is awesome and very under rated as a movie classic.

I've never seen this movie, or even heard of it for that matter... it's not on the list, does that mean that no one's reviewed it, or am I just being my usual bimbo self?

C'mon guys... One of you "Heavenly Kid" fans write a decent review for us. Do it in notepad and then go to the submissions area and watch your page get made for real...
A couple of people have submitted pages for this before but sadly they have not been enough to satisfy fans of this movie. We need a decent page for this classic...
Anyone?

Ahh the memories...I used to watch this movie over and over again. My Dad even liked it. His favorite part, and mine, was when Bobby was standing in the road as the truck was coming toward him. Then he jumps out of the way and says "I may be dead, but I ain't crazy!" Love that!!!

I dug this thread out of The Rewind Cellar, because I watched The Heavenly Kid last weekend and I just wanted to reiterate how much I enjoy this film. Lewis Smith was great as Bobby "the James Dean wanna be" trying to help Lenny be cool. Great songs in the movie too.

I just read Adventures in Goonie Sitting's post that The Heavenly Kid is coming out on DVD on November 15 and could not be more excited! I can not tell you how many times I have watched our old vhs HBO copy with my younger brother... the best part about the movie, besides all the fuzzy parts where it skips on our copy, is that it never gets old. I recently found a movie poster on Ebay of the origional cover for $8 including shipping. I was actually really surprised to find it there, as was I equally surprised to find all these postings from all of you who also love this movie! For me it has a great sentimental value because I watched it all the time as a kid. For those of you who haven't seen it recently, rewatch it...for those of you who have never seen it, watch it, you just might fall in love with it too!
