I just recently watched the '88 thriller/romance "Tequila Sunrise" for the very first time - on Blu-ray. It was just an OK film - I guess I was expecting a little more from a Kurt Russell/Michelle Pfeiffer/Mel Gibson vehicle.
The story of two old friends on opposite sides of the law (one a LE officer, one a drug dealer) who fall for the same woman seemed somewhat cliche. Also, the plot/story really dragged in some scenes.
The late Raul Julia had the best role, as a scene-stealing Mexican police officer.
In fact, the best part of the movie wasn't the story itself, but the CA beach scenery & the great dusk/dawn scenes with the red sky. I always wanted to have a beach house by the water, just like the Mel Gibson character
Also, to those who haven't already seen this & want to - the Blu ray has excellent picture quality - not all '80's films on Blu-ray can say the same.
In short, this is a film that had a lot of potential, but fell short. I think if a couple of plot-points had been changed & if the film had better editing, it would have been a much better movie.
Just my .02....
