Sunset Strip is a low-budget action thriller written and directed by William Webb ( Delta Fever etc.).
It´s pretty typical innocent man on the run film. Mark (Tom Eplin) is a freelance photographer and his friend Roger (John Mayall, yes the musician) owns a bar. Roger gets killed because crazy fella named John Moran (David Williamson) wants to take over the town. His business? Girls and guns. Mark gets framed and at the same time the mob thinks that he has some evidence. So Mark has to run from the police and the mob and at the same time tries to solve the case.
We have pretty simple plot and bad acting here but why did i enjoy it? Well, it has that magical mid 80s feel. Lots of driving around Hollywood Boulevard with a motorcycle, few ladies of the night and neon signs plus plenty of unintentional laughs
Eplin is probably the best actor here, he was also the star in Webb´s Delta Fever. Cheri Cameron Newell plays his girlfriend. Not much of an actress but has the looks. Some people may know her better as a model. David Williams is so over the top as the villain it´s hilarious. You can also see Dustin Nguyen (21 Jump Street) in a small role.
Cool street scenes, nice synth score plus two cool tunes, bad acting and a basic plot = good time with few beers and snacks.
